Delay of game on the defense
Delay of game on the defense
It was either the first or second quarter where the defense was flagged for a delay of game. Can someone here explain to me why if you remember that one? I'm not sure I have ever seen a delay of game on the defense. I know there were quite a few events that we all saw for the first time....

Just one amongst many total BS calls and non calls. It is why Bengals moaning about the Refs is galling to say the least.

I think it was on Silverback for imitating a snap count or something along those lines.

Was confused by this as well. I'm sure the announcers explained this but I was a crowded Steelers bar in Philly.
I thought the call was lame...it was on Deebo because he kept starting and stopping before the snap.
The refs decided he was trying to bait the OL into thinking the ball was snapped.
It's the penalty the Pats SHOULD have been flagged for in the opener this season when their defensive players were mimicking Ben's snap cadence.

It was on James Harrison for making what I believe was a "non-football motion" to draw the Bengals into a false start.
He was moving his arms to get them to jump

I think it was because Harrison was never set on the line. He was moving around trying to get the O to jump. Since he was never in position the play couldnt start I guess?
Just my take.

That should have been the call when Burflict took the interception the other way into the locker room. Delay of game, defense.
It was a bullshit makeup call from calling movement a couple plays before. If the offense wants to give hard counts, a defending flinching but not crossing into the neutral zone should NOT be called. ANd it never is, thus a petty make up call.

7-1-5-a:
No player shall use words or signals that disconcert opponents when they are preparing to put the ball in play. No player may call defensive signals that simulate the sound or cadence of (or otherwise interfere with) offensive starting signals.
Player(s) aligned in a stationary position within one yard of the line of scrimmage may not make quick, abrupt or exaggerated actions that are not part of normal defensive player movement (A.R. 7-1-5-IV).
There is the rule.

Addendum: unless said player is a Patriot.

Yep kinda like blatant late hits on Ben (Dunlap being the latest, last night).
