Pickens is getting a bag
Looks like he is being franchised. No doubt that will piss him off, but being franchised is going to pay him a boatload of money.
Pushing his way out of Tomlin’s dinosaur offense was a wise decision. Good for George.

Everyone pissing and moaning about our WR situation just needs to look at Pickens. Realize we had a stud in house, and because Tomlin couldn’t control him or design an offense to feed him, they had to trade him.
But Tomlin was irreplaceable?
So glad mediocre Mike is gone.

But I heard Pickens has a bad attitude. It could cause him to do something crazy like go fight a fan in the stands and get suspended for two crucial games that almost cost the Steelers a playoff spot. Oh wait...
There were some of us who pointed out that Metcalf was basically very similar to Pickens as both a player and to include attitude issues. He swung a helmet at a teammate in practice at one point. Costly penalties for letting his temper get the better of him. He isn't a loafer. That's the only real distinction.TimmayLake wrote: ↑Thu Jan 29, 2026 7:23 pmBut I heard Pickens has a bad attitude. I still think Pickens fucks things up for himself. It's more a matter of time. Maybe he gets the big contract, maybe he doesn't. I don't even trust him to be able to handle playing under the tag frankly. And his agent already has bad history with Jerry so...
Steelers should have just kept him last year given what they were trying to do. Wouldn't have mattered much, but it was still shortsighted and stupid to dump a WR like that and basically make your big off-season acquisition a wash at best.
He was still never going to see a second contract with the Steelers.
Would have sucked to have both this past year
Offense would have been too high scoring for my taste
Offense would have been too high scoring for my taste
You know in Mikey T’s remedial offense, they would have still been run run pass (5 yds behind the ltg) punt. Pickens would have less than 5 targets p/g and been throwing tantrums all over the place
i don't think they had a choice ... unless they changed their offense pickens was going to force his way out ... and even if they said they would change he likely wouldn't have believed them
he would have been a fool to stay
he would have been a fool to stay
The pouting and sideline crap in Dallas last year, and everything we saw here, was all Pickens BEFORE he got huge money. Pretty big roll of the dice how he's going to behave afterwards.
And yeah, I'm sure he'll react well if they franchise him instead of giving him his contract.

Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...

Pickens was elite when he got here
Did EVERYTHING exceptionally well
Blocked like a bulldozer
Fought for every ball like it was the last pussy he was ever gonna get
Made plays everywhere
Solid teammate
Rooneyball killed him
Like it does to all players
I hope he gets the largest WR contract ever

The WR room was exhibit A that the Steelers were not "all in" to win in 2025.
First, they took a 2026 3rd rounder from Dallas instead of having PIckens for 2025 "and" a 3rd round pick in 2027. Second, they didn't trade a pick(s) for a veteran at or before the trade deadline.
They were stockpiling picks for the 26 draft thinking that it was the opportunity to get a stud QB.
The Steelers do balance winning this year with longer term team building goals.

Blocked when he wanted to. Didn’t bother blocking for Warren.SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Fri Jan 30, 2026 5:30 pmPickens was elite when he got here

Solid teammates go hard every play even if the ball is t coming to him.
Stick to trading options for pennies because several of the things you said here are simply not true.

The Pickens defenders are living in an alternate reality where Mike Tomlin tries to win games with offense
I think being "all in" was a misnomer.lifelongsteel wrote: ↑Fri Jan 30, 2026 6:02 pmThe WR room was exhibit A that the Steelers were not "all in" to win in 2025.

Last year was essentially: Tomlin, you make all the roster calls for your last hurrah
Tomlin decided he didn't want the GP headache. And he wanted Watt and Heyward back so they got contracts. Same for Ramsey and Slay
So Khan got what he could for GP, which was pennies on the dollar. All bc they bowed to Tomlin's wishes.
Shitty attitude and a loafer half the time.
He was born to play with the diva squad out there for Jerrah.
Let's find another Wr on the draft who is maybe half the headcase that Pickens

Pickens had twice the production and half of the drama as DK this season....them's the facts.
But keep telling yourself trading Pickens while signing DK to a $150,000,000 contract was the right move.

But a good teammate goes hard every play. A good teammate blocks when the RB has the ball.
These are things Pickens chose not to do.
Because he’s a mental midget and selfish.
I can say that while also recognizing our dumb offense did hin no favors in terms of his stats.
TTHNC = This Team Has No Chance
His very first year it was obvious that Pickens didn’t want to be in Pittsburgh, and was counting the minutes til he could get out. Rooney, Tomlin, and Conn did him a huge favor by not only trading him out a year early, but also shipping him to Dallas where he could put up huge numbers in their pass happy offense.
Yep, he’s going to make a shit load of money, which he’ll likely burn through faster than AB.
George Pickens is a loser. You don’t win jack shit depending on losers. Pickens and Jerrah deserve each other.

I don't think there's too many people besides maybe Tomlin himself who really support both those moves. There's a lot more nuance to it for many, but I'll just speak for myself.TimmayLake wrote: ↑Sat Jan 31, 2026 12:39 amPickens had twice the production and half of the drama as DK this season....them's the facts.

On the filed, Metcalf has talent (we can argue if he's better than Pickens - there was a point where Metcalf was the golden boy wunderkin who checked all the physical freak boxes) and he actually is a pretty selfless guy as far as WR's go. He blocks, he doesn't seem to take plays off, and he puts in the work according to any source I've seen.
His issue is that he's a hot head and kind of an idiot with inconsistent hands. He's not the jump ball guy Pickens is, either, which is kind of an issue in the offense they ran with Arthur Smith or really the entire Tomlin era after Arians left.
I wouldn't have traded for let alone given Metcalf that contract with the state this roster is in. Period. My opinion counts for jack all.
It can also be true that the team should have kept Pickens for at least one more year and let him walk taking the comp pick.
Signing Pickens long term would have been a mess and even with a better QB situation I'm willing to bet it blows up in the face of whoever does it.
Metcalf had a freak situation that you hope doesn't repeat in anyway. He'll take some dumb penalties over the years because he loses his temper I'm guessing. But he's not a locker room cancer like Pickens is destined to be for his career.

He went on to show he’s immature and unreliable.
Not doubting his talent. Doubting his fragile mental state.
Something you can relate to.
And I was in the camp that we should not have traded him.
This team far too often bought into the “hostages vs volunteers” jargon Jibba spewed.
He often used trading a player to make up for his own inability to get them to buy in.
And his offense was lame.
Multiple things can be true at the same time.
