It’s not that we can predict the future. It’s more about what hiring McCarthy says about the state of the franchise.
What's it say?
It says, contrary to the hope some of us had, that Art II is still in control and will be for some time; and Art II thinks the roster/direction of the team is fine as is. He didn’t want a rebuild; he wanted to keep doing what we do.

I was all set for giving a bright young mind a long leash to rebuild this franchise for the future. McCarthy ain’t that.

I know you’re happy as a pig in shit. All geared up for the vet QB patch and drive for 9-8/10-7 so we can play “one more meaningful game” every other year. Congrats. My Dad is about your age and I’m sad that he’s seen his last Lombardi.
As per usual, Ol skool, you're reading me wrong. I would have been good with Shula or Klint kubiak, for instance. But I'm also not going to make any negative assumptions about McCarthy that are so prevelant on this site. Also, according to DK (I forget his whole name), the guy Rooney wanted was Flores. McCarthy was Kahn's guy.

Still waiting for an answer on how things would have been different next season if McCarthy was not the choice

The only positive spin I can put on all this is that Art II was pissed that his binky Mediocre Mike spurned him and stepped down. He knew Tomlin has held a grudge against McCarthy for winning that Super Bowl against him all those years ago and made this move out of spite.

Best I've got. Tomlin is secretly somewhere seething that McCarthy is now in charge of his team.

I was told it was going to be a DEI hire.

In hindsight, I kind of wish it was.

As per usual, I already answered you, but you didn’t realize it.

Let me clarify. It’s not just “not McCarthy”; it’s also “not someone like Tomlin.”

With Shula, Scheelhaase, one of the Kubiaks, Udinski, etc. we’d have hope that the Steelers were being rebuilt for the modern NFL.

With McCarthy (I’ll add Flores and Weaver to this list because the former is a retread and the latter seems a defense-first dinosaur) we have confirmation that Art II is still King and commands that not only such a rebuild not take place, but we’re doubling down on what we’ve been doing.

So, it seems we’re in store for more patchwork QBs running an offense that desires to play bully ball (but fails), a defense that commands 2/3rds of the payroll (but sucks), on a team that needs to eat clock and rely on turnovers (and bad calls) to win close games.

And you’ll be “happy as a pig in shit” because you, as you’ve repeatedly shown, are fine with what we’ve put on tape.

We, who rooted for losses to get Tomlin canned, now face the fact that Art II will keep trying to NHALS us into a slumber, AND the next Rooney in line is just fine with that.

It’s confirmation that the Steelers are Moses wandering the desert; a desert not bereft of winning seasons, and we may even get the occasional playoff win here and there, but while Moses sought the promised land, the Steelers are content to wander for wandering’s sake.

You guys gotta cut Swiss some slack

He’s Italian and most Italians don’t understand football too well

They are above average when it comes to understanding criminal business endeavors, taking lots of time off, and tomato sauces, but football eludes most of them

Settle down Sally. It was a joke and had some humor to it.

You that big of a damn pussy you can’t laugh at a good humored joke?

Rhetorical question.

But we can’t ask the same question of me now can we? It is funny when you try to flip things but just look dumb doing so.

Curious, how many AFC Norf Champions shirts do you have? Serious question?

Art Rooney Sr. was the dragon on the right for forty years, but we forget.
The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.
