Maybe no one wanted the Steelers job much … no one of any worthSteelafan77 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 24, 2026 6:58 pmShould’ve connected the dots when this was put out there….
49ers offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak has removed himself from consideration for head coaching vacancies, per sources. The Raiders and Steelers had requested to interview him. He prefers to keep working with Kyle Shanahan.![]()
Maybe asshat Rooney really did yell. Them he thinks they can win now with this roster
And the smart ones bailed

Could be, I hope. McCarthy is 62, won´t be here for 15 years.StillerInCT wrote: ↑Sat Jan 24, 2026 6:48 pmThe only way this makes sense to me is if Scheelhaase is brought in as an OC. Give him a year or two as OC with the promise to promote or something like that.
I guess the job wasn’t as attractive as everybody thought
"I'm institutionalized, man," he joked. "I gotta have it. I just love the challenges week in and week out that this job provides: the growth in it, the collective growth, the individual growth."
I doubt they even sniffed around McDermott. You know why? Because McDermott was fired in Buffalo for the GM and owner what he actually thought of that roster which is objectively superior to that of the Steelers.
You think Khan or Art II were going to sign themselves up for hearing what he actually thinks of what the Steelers have become?
The young coaches they interviewed almost certainly proposed big changes. McCarthy's sorry ass came in and promised them more of the same. And Art II ate it up because that's what he wanted to hear.

Yep. Very likely one of the main reasons. That means a lot of washed up veterans are back and new contract for nepo brother Connor. We´ll see regarding coos.CKSteeler wrote: ↑Sat Jan 24, 2026 7:01 pmYou think Khan or Art II were going to sign themselves up for hearing what he actually thinks of what the Steelers have become?

Good to know that you asshats have all the answers, know exactly what's going to happen next season.
Funny, I know he has a QB, but Harbaugh, older than McCarthy, is being hailed as a fuckin messiah in New York.
Whoever was brought in as HC would have a challenge at QB.
Too bad so many of you are renouncing your fandom. My guess is you'll still be around.

Lot of players during exit interviews said they want him back. So - Rooney did everything in his power to get him back.steelmann58 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 24, 2026 7:03 pmScrew this wtf are they doing trying to get this team to bring back AR

big Yinzer celebration!
So on the illusion that they have a real Team even with no QB
They are going to scrap their successful track record of long tenured young coaches and
Likely still lose next year with a retread coach and non-football GM and
Risk being equated with the Pirates
Is Rooney a Russian spy … an agent provocateur here to ruin Everyhting this Franchise built ?
What the fuck is going on ?

If true
YUCK!
We can only hope this is McCarthy trying to pull a Russ Grimm and tell everyone he got the job when he didn't.

Steelers are the new Cowboys, historic franchise turned into a laughing stock. McCarthy is the fat Tomlin. Expect 8-9 seasons instead of 9-8.
Later fuckers, I’m done.

There is a silver lining here. McCarthy isn’t going to be here for 10+ years. It’s a baby step toward viewing the HC in a modern lens and not being beholden to keeping him out of traditions of only have 3 (now 4) coaches since 1969.

Gut punching
Unless we have 2 young coordinators to grow into coach when McCarthy steps away

I hold out hope. Could this be our Russ Grimm moment all over again? They leak this hire, then switch it up to a younger guy last minute to get fan buy in?
