Cuts and Trades also waiver Additions
Re: Cuts and Trades also waiver Additions
The guy was a UDFA who contributed and played well for the most part and made plays when he had the chance.
Tomlin picked two guys who aren't even healthy to stick on the roster over him.
Bishop has a better chance of being a player than the scrubs they kept who can't stay healthy. Not even going to talk about the overpaid veterans who are getting by on name recognition more than ability at this point in their careers.

Well, they did move Howard and Kent to IR, and they did re-sign Clark, but not Pierre. The second roster addition was Sharping.anpsteel wrote: ↑Tue Aug 26, 2025 8:54 pmThey are cutting players- that they believe will make it through waivers, imo.
Then once waivers are cleared, they'll move Will Howard and Donte Kent to IR (doing this allows them to go toward the 6 total IR that can return vs the 2 IR to return, prior to initial cut downs)
Once they are on IR- my guess would be James Pierre and maybe Chuck Clark resigned.
Edit: so apparently, this is not confirmed- it's just Kaboly ruminating ... so whatever lol
So they are going to carry 4 QBs or they have no confidence in B. Jones and are lining up the other QBs

Well, it’s beginning to look like they are going to go with DK and the smurfs
Who tf is going to replace Metcalf if he gets injured?
Like seriously
They absolutely need a backup outside receiver
I guess they learned nothing from last season

At least if DK goes down NHALS MIGHT finally die (I don't know if anything will kill that bastard).
Just mind numbingly stupid WR room construction even if you’re a closet Roman Wilson fan.
“But Omar Khan got us Jonnu Smith!”
Whoop-Tee-Do, Basil.
As I/We have previously posted, the decision to draft Kaleb Johnson (or Jack Sawyer for that matter) for what looks to be a running back by committee offense was a disappointing one.
I personally think this “deep” running back class was overrated with many of the big names winding up late day 3 dart throws and future backups (In the world of fantasy football, these players are known as handcuffs).
I would’ve preferred one of these buzzy preseason players like Ollie Gordon, DJ Giddens, or even that Bill fella over in Washington and a choice of Savion Williams, Donte Thornton, Elic Ayomanor, Tory Horton etc in the round 3 or 4 range (It’s only hindsight if you’re a draft casual).
Yep
Trading Pickens without a fallback plan was shit-off stupid.
I don’t miss the recent piss poor drafting of Colbert one little bit, but I need better out of this new regime.

“YES! A 3rd rounder for Pickens! I ROCK! The draft is over??? WTF DO YOU MEAN THE DRAFT IS OVER?!?! Oh well. Mikey’s got this. NHALS is undefeated.”
Great, the Steelers are loaded with picks next year.
You want Tomlin picking/developing another young quarterback?

I don't have a problem with trading Pickens for a 3rd- but having been through a full season with no real replacement if their #1 goes down- they know, first hand, just how effed the offense will be.Steeldrama wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 3:42 pmAt least if DK goes down NHALS MIGHT finally die (I don't know if anything will kill that bastard).

Does it make a difference with Rodgers throwing vs the two dolts from last season? Sure- but if Jonu Smith and/or Roman Wilson are your outside receivers, with DK out, that's a big bag of - I'd like to face 8 man boxes, please. So you can't run, and no one can get open.
Anywho- I guess we'll find out.

I think the strategy would have been fine except for taking a RB and JAG EDGE instead of freshly ripe WR prospects hanging on the vine. Hell, take Savion Williams or Donte Thornton, then some good-looking RB prospect (didn't need to be a stud) and I'd feel much better about this team.anpsteel wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 4:37 pmI don't have a problem with trading Pickens for a 3rd- but having been through a full season with no real replacement if their #1 goes down- they know, first hand, just how effed the offense will be.Steeldrama wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 3:42 pmAt least if DK goes down NHALS MIGHT finally die (I don't know if anything will kill that bastard).

Nice to see them thinking outside the box, putting that pro scouting department to work and really scouring the league for undervalued talent to put this thing together.Steelafan77 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 27, 2025 11:52 pmPractice Squad Looks like….

Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...
I'm not against the Johnson pick, but it certainly feels like they had their eyes set on him- and predetermined to take him, with that 3rd round pick, if he was on the board. His college tape shows much better vision than Najee ever had... so fingers crossed.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 5:33 pmI think the strategy would have been fine except for taking a RB and JAG EDGE instead of freshly ripe WR prospects hanging on the vine. In respect to the Receiver situation- we know Tomlin isn't going to put a rookie receiver on the field much, no matter how good they may be- so... not relying upon the draft to fill that spot, I understand.
But, they absolutely are aware of the issue, and have essentially put all their chips in the center of the table for the season- so why would they be so short sighted when it comes to a FA or a trade.?? This issue is amplified by the fact they went through it last season AND Tomlin's unwillingness to utilize a player, if they are signed after training camp, because of the whole, "moving train" bullshit-
Mike Williams absolutely could have helped them last season- but Tomlin's epically stupid bs - kept him on the sideline.
To your point about using a pick on Jack Sawyer- I mean... maybe- and that's a big maybe- he pans out as depth, but why not just roll with Leal for the season- and take a receiver there??
I still feel like they are looking to add an outside receiver prior to week 1, but it's going to be scrub city- for sure.

Then didn’t see the field again.
That’s Jibba Jabber for ya.
Does our pro scouting department even know who the other teams are? It's amazing to me that not a single cut from other teams was better than our fodder.
Interesting note
The Steelers added G Aiden Williams with the last practice squad spot
Every single player on the 53 and PS was with them this summer
I’m guessing this is a reflection of keeping the team chemistry and Tomlins “moving train”

I wonder if there's more to the story. Did Williams get caught in a Tomlin - Khan pissing contest? The offense was so pathetic in December that you'd think a rational coach would give Williams a shot to contribute.
given tomlin's history, i'd imagine there was a dog house williams found himself inW&M_Steeler wrote: ↑Fri Aug 29, 2025 2:28 pmI wonder if there's more to the story. but, there is also the fact that he signed with the Chargers this offseason, and promptly retired. Maybe a question of health???
Don't know
How in the hell does Connor Heyward make an NFL roster? Dude does nothing well.

Didnt Dan retire around 2002 Rooney as president with Art taking over. I still think it's luck, it's almost impossible to know 100% how a player will be from college to pro.jebrick wrote: ↑Wed Aug 27, 2025 1:31 pmHe started under Dan, who ran the Steeler scout orgnaization. Doesn't take away what he built starting in 2000. He didn't just forget how to evaluate talent, it's a crapshoot. Tomlin, I'm sure, didn't help matters either.

Pasties taking Robinson, looking like Steelers are interested in a veteran player for depth.
Wasn’t aware Leota didn’t get resigned. The Pittsburgh Steelers hosted inside linebacker Jon Rhattigan for a visit on Monday, according to the transaction wire.
Rhattigan has played in 52 NFL games, with 12 special teams tackles in his season with the Panthers last year. He ran a 4.77 40-yard dash at his pro day in 2021 with Army. https://www.pennlive.com/steelers/2025/ ... visit.html
Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported that New Orleans is signing linebacker Eku Leota to the practice squad after having a workout with the team. https://www.si.com/nfl/saints/saints-ne ... stops-pat3

Roster moves….
Would've liked to have kept Williams. The Steelers made multiple practice squad moves, including signing receiver Lance McCutcheon and linebacker Jon Rhattigan.
The team also released offensive lineman Aiden Williams, and on Tuesday released receiver Robert Woods from the practice squad.

Likely the Max Scharping signing and with Steven Jones PS’d made Williams expendable.
With Spencer Anderson and Andrus Peat the only depth behind McCormick and Seumalo.
Calvin Anderson, Andrus Peat and Spencer Anderson can play OT in a pinch as well.
Would be nice to develop Williams going forward though.
