Noll was a defensive coach.
Yes, but as a player, he spent 7 years being the messenger guard for one of the greatest offensive minds and football teachers in the history of the league.
Ah. Thanks for sharing. Did not know that.

Or knew that and have long forgotten that… :D

Maybe these teams are looking for some corporate discounts for Fed Ex

Maybe they're talking to Smith as a threat to get Aaron Rodgers to retire?

"Hey A-ron, if you don't retire, we're going to take our offense back to the stone age and make your job impossible. Your choice."
This was actually my first thought when I read they requested the interview. Then I remembered that Rodgers hates modern NFL offenses almost as much as Tomlin does.

You can't fix stupid. One of those idiotic franchises would probably give us multiple 1's for Tomlin and make all of our dreams come true.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

Arthur Smith has proven to suck.

However, I’d prefer to keep him if Jibbs is coach.

Otherwise, some dipshit that coached Dino when he was 7 will end up as our next OC.

Playin to win babaaay.

The Dipshit may be Dino, then he can slide into the Head coaching slot when his dad retires.

I would stop watching this team instantly if that happened.

Don’t even float that thought into the universe.

Bad organizations do what bad organizations do. You can’t find two more poorly run than the Jets and Bears. Imagine watching the Steelers caveman offense and thinking, that’s what I want!

Not sure I buy the idea he was offensively gifted

Really mishandled Terry most of his career
Mr Legend. Steroids were not illegal in society or the NFL. Legal steroids is what he brought.

After drafting him in this year´s 2nd round. We all know how badly Steelers need that elusive outside wr2.

Why wouldn't you want the Recipient of the Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford Postgraduate Scholarship Award to be your starting WR?

In my opinion, here's the next great assistant on the path to future stud NFL coach:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T._C._McCartney

Kyle Shanahan/Alex Van Pelt/Les Miles tree

As QB coach, coached rookie QBs Drew Lock, Brett Rypien, Drew Lock, Joe Milton... all of whom showed marked improvement

worked as TE coach alongside Bill Callahan... big plus for understanding of blocking schemes/techniques

Personal:
His father was Sal Aunese... great college QB who died of stomach cancer at age 21... two months after TC was born.
His grandfather is an icon of college coaching, Bill McCartney (top assistant under Bo Schembeckler, then HC at Colorado... inducted into the college football HOF)

Since Mayo got fired, I would think there's at least a possibility a new HC would bring his own guys in... maybe he's available as an OC. He certainly fits.

If they move on from Alex Van Pelt, maybe Van Pelt comes as OC and brings Mccartney, but that doesn't seem like a great move for either, even though AVP has the Pittsburgh connection (born in Pittsburgh, played at Pitt, was on the Steelers roster as a UDFA) and most famously, was the offensive coordinator for the Browns team that crushed the Steelers playoff hopes in 2020. In that game, AVP called plays, even though he normally did not (HC was out with COVID).

but TC McCartney would be high on the list of interviews for OC for me if Smith left.
Problem is Tomlin and Art2 love them some 1990's Joe Walton systems

Teams valuing Smith out of nowhere?

Wonder if he’s replacing Coach. Dude looks unhealthy.

Speaking of the Jets...

...Head Coach Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglass were fired long before the Jets’ disastrous season concluded.

While their departures can be justified by their record, it can also be said that working for Woody Johnson and the long dysfunctional Jets franchise is a no win situation for any coach/GM tandem.

I realize until Art II and Tomlin are gone, the Steelers are going nowhere fast.

However, I really think if Saleh were hired as Steelers’ DC and actually given the autonomy to implement his defense, he would be a major upgrade over the Teryl Tomlin shitshow we’ve been subjected to these past few seasons.

I’m starting to lose interest in the Khan artist.

Don't know why exactly, I know any move he makes is just ruined by piss poor coaching.

Perhaps he’s just another Tomlin yes-man or is just not cut out to be anything more than a bean counter.

Given the sad fact that Art II is STILL running the show, I suspect Omar’s job is safe for the foreseeable future so perhaps adding longtime Andy Weidl colleague Joe Douglass (14 years together Ravens/Eagles) to the front office would be a boost to the talent evaluation process.

Anyway, I usually find myself dismissing fleeting thoughts such as these knowing full well the Steelers under Art II and Tomlin will remain status quo following yet another humiliating playoff defeat but sometimes I just can't stop myself.

The jets franchise should be revoked after Tomlin lands there

I mean what kind of crazy are they ? Just nuts
The New York Post’s Brian Costello reports the Jets believe Lions OC Ben Johnson would not be a good fit for the team’s head coaching job.
It’s hardly a guarantee that Johnson, one of the best and most respected offensive play callers in the NFL over the past few seasons, would even take the Jets head coaching job if it were offered to him. Perhaps Jets ownership knows this and doesn’t want to waste time on the charade of Johnson taking on such a thankless head coaching job after he’s been patient in waiting for the right opportunity. The Jets are likely to hire a retread head coach — they’re interviewing former Jets head coach Rex Ryan Tuesday — who can make the team at least somewhat respectable in 2025 and beyond.

No better landing spot for him than here. A team that values stability and would give him plenty of time to build the team.

Problem is that Dunce is terrified of replacing Jibba Jabber AND he will most certainly have to follow the “Steelers Way” and hire another defensive minded HC.

This team is fucked for a while still.

I'm guessing Ben Johnson won't go to any of these perennially fucked up teams with stupid assed owners and no future.

That's a one way ticket to palookaville. Johnson and Glenn can call their shots.

Thanks for the link. Maybe history repeats itself. The old Rooney is ushered out and the young Dan comes in and turns it all around. One can hope!
