Two things.

All you asshats fighting to blame the loss on Fields or Frazier are letting a horrendous defensive performance off the hook.

On Fields, let’s take an honest review of his skill set and performance after 4 weeks.
Arm strength is outstanding.
Accuracy on short and deep balls has been great.
Athleticism, he’s probably the second best runner at the QB position in the league after Lamar Jackson.

Downside is his ability to read defenses and recognize blitzes needs a lot of work and he’s prone to try to do too much and fuck up a drive like the fumble sack today. What Fields needs is a really good QB coach which he won’t get in Pittsburgh. They will limit him to handoff guy, QB run guy, and throws where he only has to read half the field. They won’t develop him into a complete QB, but I think he’s got the tools to get there.
Do you think Fields is the long term answer at QB in Pittsburgh, Perch?
Not yet, but he has the tools. I know Russell Wilson is not. I knew Kenny Pickett was not. Fields has a fuck ton of potential and he’s played way better than I expected. As a passer he’s way better than given credit for. With Tomlin and our offensive philosophy I am not sure Patrick Mahomes would be the long term answer here.

Fields put up 360+ yards of offense and 3 Tds today and people are shitting on him. That isn’t right.
It's about people having to be right.

I'll never understand it.

11th overall pick has "all the tools". Super astute observation there.
Bryce Young went first overall and has none of the tools Mr Ass Toot

If Fields throws 30 TDs, 4500 yards, and leads the Steelers to a playoff win, I'd be thrilled and right on the Fields bus with you. But some of you guys act like everything he does is awesome, even if he throws for 120 yards in a game with no TDs. I think it's way too soon to be so sold on the guy. He had a bad first half and a great second half today. Not ready to give him $30 million/ year for that.

He was 3-0 coming into today and played like a Pro Bowler when the team needed him most. Dude has every tool you want in a modern day QB. We didn't lose today because of Justin Fields.

The Steelers were in the game today because of Justin Fields. They finally let him create (which, again, is exactly what I said he would have to do when the Steelers were down 14-0 in the game thread. Check it out.)

Fields is in a terrible offense, has shitload of important players injured and he fucking BALLED OUT....and really could have won this game.

The Steelers are very, very lucky to have this guy and like I said headed into this week, I'd get used to watching Fields in the black and gold.

I think he's going to be the starter for a long while.

He didn’t literally take seven off. You are making that assumption.
He was in bounds with the EZ in front of him before he lateralled it to the colts. I am going to go ahead and make that assumption.
He didn’t lateral it to the colts. He was being tackled and the ball came out. It was a terrible play on his part. But I don’t think first and goal from the five is a gimmie
Even if it is not a gimme TD it is a gimme FG that ended up being a huge difference.

I hope you're right. But premature hype annoys me. I was annoyed last year when KP was being touted as the savior of the franchise. I have been annoyed with the Fields hype this pre-season and early season, particularly when, to me, he looked pretty pedestrian the first two weeks. Last week and the second half of this week give me hope, and he has flashes of play that are far better than anything KP ever did, but Fields needs to build on it. My question is, what is more representative- his second half today, or his first half? We'll see.

Fields is a Pro Bowler now in the elite Mahomes class.

Old Joe outplayed him today.
"I'm institutionalized, man," he joked. "I gotta have it. I just love the challenges week in and week out that this job provides: the growth in it, the collective growth, the individual growth."

You can keep blaming him for years if you want—either Fields or the guard called for the snap. It’s a blind play for Frazier and he is dependent on the communication between the other two guys.
So Fields called for the ball while looking towards the sidelines?

I think the first half was a case of the Colts absolutely dominating the line of scrimmage. I mean, they fucking destroyed the Steelers up front on both sides of the ball.

Watt was uncharacteristically INVISIBLE. Fields was running for his life and the second half started like more of the same, until that fumble. That seemed to change Fields' focus. Fields knows he can take over a game himself with both his arm and legs and today, he had to show it....and he did.

Dude was perfect after that fumble and after that first TD drive, the Colts defense realized that they had to dial back the pressure on Fields because he was starting to beat them with his legs. Once the pressure was contained, Fields started dropping dimes.

See, this is where you and I part ways. You're worried about Fields developing. I'm worried about everyone around Fields developing. The o-line was AWFUL for much of the game (fucking Fields led the team in rushing with 55 yards.) Pickens....I don't know what to say about him anymore. Arthur Smith just kept handing the ball to Najee despite it never working.

No, I'm not worried about Fields. I'm worried about every other aspect of this offense though. A lot.

Fair enough, we'll agree to disagree on that point. I am not writing Fields off, and I am encouraged by some of what I have seen from him, but I am not yet convinced. I hope he will convince me, snarky gametime comments aside. It would be awesome if the Steelers managed to get a franchise QB for a 4th round pick.

But I agree the rest of the O needs work. Muth really needs to step up, as do the WRs. Losing Daniels mid-game hurt. Najee is what he is at this point, and the FO seems to realize it at least.

I was rooting for Kenny to develop. He might have but he ruined that with a bad attitude.

Everybody should have been rooting for Pickett to develop. It didn't happen.

Fields is a totally different animal.

I'm not only rooting for Fields, I am most certainly "pimping him."

The second half was pretty encouraging overall, all game thread shenanigans aside.

He just has come up short so many times in the past and been such a turnover machine that I'm going to have to see a lot more before I can begin to feel comfortable with the idea of him being our starter next season.

No he's in Cowboys land and they are insufferable when they win even if they aren't supposed to. Every win and they're screaming "We dem boyz" and how they're Super Bowl bound.

Nothing is more enjoyable than watching that fan base lose and watching them jump off the bridge. Their radio meltdowns and Roswell Area 51 nuclear explosions are a joy to listen to during a morning commute and it lasts a whole week too.

Fields put up 360+ yards of offense and 3 Tds today and people are shitting on him. That isn’t right.
Sometimes you just gotta consider the source

One of the poasters doing the shitting doesn’t think Josh Allen is a top 5 quarterback and started a Ben must retire thread….4 years before he actually retired.

The other shitters i never heard of and have no track record

The struggles of the offense at root lie with coaching and scheme.

Perch and others have it right.

No qb in the NFL could excel wearing a Steelers uniform.

Blaming Fields or pining for Wilson is just shit off stupid

Plenty of blame to go around

Fields fumbled but in case you missed it so did Pickens.

Yep the botched snap sucked but how about getting out of bounds Najee instead of fighting for another foot

AND WHY IN THE FUCK WAS JOSH DOWNS REPEATEDLY COVER BY SAFETIES AND WHITE LINEBACKERS

Low Watt must’ve had money on the game. Ghost

The Colts were far from a formidable foe

Tomlin special

Fields is a freak athlete. Fields can score. It’s his brain that isn’t there. It goes back to the coaching; can you win with his warts?

They have been winning with those warts. Today the Steelers coaching and the defense let him down.

This is another Tomlin failure and those that aren’t calling Tomlin out are idiots themselves

It is a little more than that:

Per Fields….

“It was my fault,” Fields told reporters via the team website. “We were going the first leg kick. Then Zach was IDing stuff. I felt the DBs rotating and changing the back end pictures. So when he was IDing stuff, telling the o-line where to go, I was just trying to get that final picture before the snap came.
“At the end of the day it’s on the first leg kick. So after I kicked my leg up, I gotta be ready for the ball no matter when it’s gonna come or not. So yeah, it’s on me.”

Of course he's going to say that.

Ben used to say it was his fault when the o-line didn't block anybody.

It's clearly on Frazier.
I just watched the replay

I was wrong.

I think Fields is taking the blame, to support his teammate

It looks like it’s clearly on Frazier, unless there was a leg lift or hip tap, that wasn’t shown on the clip

Fields admitted it was on him
Of course he's going to say that.

Who is the idiot that cropped the twitter clip so short? Let’s see the huddle break and then the snap.

fields had a good second half today
i think that’s agreeable

i think it’s also agreeable that come next game and all games thereafter, we will start out calling the offense exactly how we did today:

I agree with perch that wilson is definitely not the answer and maybe fields could be

i suspect he will make some great pays - have some nice games and he will have some very bad blunders - as he always has done.

it’s going to be a real dilemma at year end - he will do well enough in THIS Offense to preserve NHALS but he and this HC will Never take this team above that. we will not get playoff wins.
but then again it may not really matter who the QB is.

i remain hopeful by generally disheartened due to the HC

listen to his post game press conference - he is what we know he is

I like Justin Fields

I want him to succeed

He’s not being done any favors with this ridiculous play calling.

Every team knows Tomlins tendencies. Irrespective of the coordinator

And of course, Tomlins offensive schemes aside, Fields hasn’t really shown he’s capable of winning the game on his own, so the D just stacks the box

Until the offense shows they can make the defense pay, they’ll keep loading the box daring the Steelers to throw

A big part of NFL QB play is mitigating the negatives. On the Colts nigh game winning 3rd TD drive, Flacco dealt with pass rushers on top of him almost every play. But he intentional groundinged his way out of most of them, keeping that drive alive and eventually buying that late 14 point lead.

On our side, when life gave us lemons, we squeezed the juice out of those lemons straight into our eye sockets. Difference in the ball game.

Was asking Zach Frazier about the early snap at the end of the game. He was struggling trying to explain it when LG Mason McCormick interjected: "It was all of our faults."

Watt
Minkah
Porter
Queen

Please donate your game checks to a Burgh’ charity this week.

That was a disgrace of a performance considering how much you are paid. Like 90M between you three???

Pleaseeeeeee child. Embarrassing.

Queen was invisible, except for when he was pile jumping
