Might be a great excuse for a spring Burgh trip.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...

Great news.
I would like to attend next year's draft in Green Bay as well. That stadium and surrounding area is sick. The rest of the town not so much.

Pretty good Mexican food there. Lots of seasonal workers from Mexico. But... yeah.fractalsteel wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 4:00 pmGreat news.

You can find good Mexican fare all over the upper middle west. I found a terrific place north of Eugene a few years back.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 4:04 pmPretty good Mexican food there. I love Chinese food and one of the best places I found was this joint in Battle Mountain Nevada. The place was packed on a Tuesday when I stopped in. Took an hour to get ordered and to me. Worth the wait. Somewhere I have the receipt to the place if anyone is interested.
I-80 through Nevada is a great drive.
North of Green Bay, Wisconsin really becomes beautiful. On the upper tip is a place you can only get to by boat. Rock island with a really old well kept up light tower. The drawback is that the tiny island is full of snakes. Everywhere. Nothing venomous but kind of creepy.
Lots of wineries as well if you like that kind of stuff.

You forgot the bogs. If you go past Eagle River, you can walk on shoreline that is actually floating on the lake.fractalsteel wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 4:33 pmYou can find good Mexican fare all over the upper middle west. Anyway, was at a bar near Lambeau (Andruzzi's, if memory serves) and asked the waitress if she could recommend a good local beer. She says she'll "grab a few samples for me to try".......this woman comes back with a full tray of half-poured pint glasses. I was drunk after my damn 'sample'. What i'm trying to say is whatever stories you've heard about Wisconsinites drinking prowess are 100% accurate.
I actually enjoyed the rest of the city as well - granted it's pretty small so if you're seeking out amenities you'll probably be disappointed.

Can you say this coming from LA. My Esposa is Salvadorean, and I love Pupusas. Hope you have tried them. I'm in the IE.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 4:04 pmPretty good Mexican food there. Well, I've only had Papusas in LA & NYC... but LA Pupusas are dope. Used to be a place on Sunset-- on the Hollywood Junction side near Tarantino's movie theater that was really good. Haven't been there in years though, and I've had pupusa's in a random strip mall that were also excellent.gojira5150 wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 7:20 pmCan you say this coming from LA. Wisconsin was more street tacos and then decent restaurant fare, like mole, tamales, Huevos Rancheros and whatnot.
Here in NYC, Mexican food or the like has always been a bit hard to find. There's a fantastic taco shop in the Lower East Side near me on Clinton (I say that as a person who's had the best of LA and CDMX tacos) and there's East LA style mexican in Soho at a place called Lupe's East LA that is one of my favorite joints in the city (and they still have prices that are like from 15-20 years ago). Best Michelada in America.

IDK the last time you were in SO Cal but there's Hispanic folks on street corners (street tacos) cooking up some food, birria meat is popular now, which is delicious.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 7:53 pmWell, I've only had Papusas in LA & NYC... but LA Pupusas are dope. How exactly?
Went to the Vegas draft. …which kinda sucked. And that was Vegas.
Where can Pittsburgh even host this thing?

I don't think I have had a papusas before so I went online to see how to make them. Of course there are many ways but each one looks great and not to difficult to make happen.
Cooking the beans with jalapenos and red onions is a nice twist. Cabbage instead of lettuce, very cool.

The large majority of time…serving, as a host, an untested recipe is a mistake.fractalsteel wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 10:50 pmI don't think I have had a papusas before so I went online to see how to make them. …there’s plenty of proof, ‘online’.
Honestly, when I heard this news, I figured that this move was a way to stop any bitching about the brutal schedule they gave us this year. How can Rooney bitch much now? Calculated move? Maybe!

I heard they are doing a Deer Hunter theme!
They are opening up several church basements and social halls!
When the draft picks are announced they come out to a Polish bridal dance theme (Nah na nah nah nah nah na) and are surrounded by fans who pay a $100 to do a shot and dance with the draft pick!
At the end of each dance, the respective football organization has to fight through the crowd to get their draft pick and carry them off! If the crowd keeps them out the Steelers get the pick!
It will be a blast!
Real Russian Roulette to close out each round!

Detroit was fun, but that's it for me.
Too many people packed into a tight area and you had to get there at about 2 PM to have any chance of seeing the stage.
I'll enjoy the Pittsburgh draft from my couch.

They announced the dates for the 2025 draft in November 2023. I'd imagine the Pittsburgh draft will be announced around the same time.

I had a gig in farmland Wisconsin, near Lake Geneva.Wisconsinites drinking prowess
Had some time off, went to a nice brewery. Saw some guy drinking cheese.
"I'm institutionalized, man," he joked. "I gotta have it. I just love the challenges week in and week out that this job provides: the growth in it, the collective growth, the individual growth."
