Meat Packers at Block Numbers Game Comments and Misery
Re: Meat Packers at Block Numbers Game Comments and Misery
KP is playing like a backup waiting for the injured starter to save the day. If this were Charlie Batch I would be pretty stoked but it is the starting QB.

If this is how they plan on playing offense we didn’t and don’t need a 1st round QB to execute it.
Any middling JAG can be Uber conservative on their way to a 126 yard day with no TDs. Bibberty could have done that in his sleep.
Scary thing is we had damn near 200 yards rushing and KP was still a cunt hair away from being a 57% passer for the day.
Think about that. Had but one of his caught passes fallen incomplete he would have completed a woeful 57% of his passes.
As it stands, he was still an awful 60% passer.
That is below the line. If you will.
Imagine if we didn’t have a season’s best day on the ground?
Yes yes we won and ultimately that’s all that matters.
But that won’t be good enough when the games really matter. Last time I checked, the AFC field isn’t full of Alex Smiff type of QBs you’ll be able to beat in the playoffs without scoring a single TD.

We should have known they would start doing that.
They're throwing 2 yard passes, 0 yard passes, -1 yard passes. The only thing left to do is start throwing the ball backwards.

The starting point of the line is the QB's hand, not his body, so actually it is possible the ball didn't go backwards. I still think it did, but it's actually hard to judge.
So a "stands" call might have been the right call.

It's the position of the ball, not the hand. The ball when released appears to be between the 10 and 9. When Warren touches it, it is between the 9 and 8... maybe if you really squint, it's right on the 9 yard line. The best argument you can make is that the replay confirms it is lateral not backward... but a lateral is still a fumble, jeemie wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2023 1:30 pmActually I saw a breakdown of the play, with pictures, by Gene Steratore.Sir Lambert wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2023 3:51 amWe should have known they would start doing that.

screenshots. Even if adjusted for slight skewing of the angle... looks pretty safe to say it wasn't forward.

Definitely wasn’t forward!bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2023 4:57 pmscreenshots. Even if adjusted for slight skewing of the angle... looks pretty safe to say it wasn't forward.
But let’s face it, they blew the play dead immediately, they weren’t overturning it.
Better to simply let it stand than deal with the backlash.

There's no backlash-- they changed this rule several years ago. As long as there is a clear recovery (there was), it's a turnover if they rule it was not a forward pass.Jobu wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2023 5:23 pmDefinitely wasn’t forward!bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2023 4:57 pmscreenshots. Well the player scored a TD. That would be taken off the board.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2023 7:31 pmThere's no backlash-- they changed this rule several years ago. Correct. Which makes how they ruled on the field annoying. I'm a fan of letting the play play out if there's any question about the correct ruling. This has burned the Steelers' defense before and will likely burn them again someday.jeemie wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 4:31 pmWell the player scored a TD. That's the funny thing. This was a point of emphasis years ago - letting the play play out and not blowing the whistle. Yet the refs kept blowing their whistles and the controversies kept happening.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 4:37 pmCorrect. Which makes how they ruled on the field annoying. There is nothing consistent about NFL officiating and points of emphasis and even direct rule changes year to year just confuse the situation further.
hard to assess what expectations should be.
Vs. AFCN schedule,
Preseason NFL MVP contender Joe Burrow is at 5.5 NY/A,
Preseason NFL MVP contender Deshaun Watson’s season is over at 5.5 NY/A,
And Pickett is a horribly disappointing 5.5 NY/A with 6TDs / 4 picks.
Where actual NFL backups vs AFCN schedule this year are at (Trubisky, Walker, DTR combined):
4.2 NY/A, 2 TDs, 10 picks.
We make excuses for Burrow and assume Watson has lost it. Fine.
how he is playing now does not mean he will not change in the future but other QBs are not playing scared. Backups come into the game and you tell them not to lose the game. 4th quarter Kenny plays like a different animal but I will stick by my opinion that KP and this offense are playing like a backup.Mick wrote: ↑Thu Nov 16, 2023 1:17 pmhard to assess what expectations should be.
