Feelings on Pickett if PIT goes 1-3/0-4 over the next month
Feelings on Pickett if PIT goes 1-3/0-4 over the next month
As long as Pickett makes the games roughly competitive and overall better than Mitch, I'll be pleased.
I don't expect them really to win any game - especially if Watt is still out - but if Kenny can put up points (I don't know, 16/17+ at least?) and move the offense it's a great sign.
No idea on Austin's timeline for return from what I've read. Would be interesting to see how they could use him with Canada's motion (I still want him gone) and take his gameday roster spot from 89, especially with his fumbling issues.
If you're going to run horizontal plays/motion, they need lateral agility/speed/etc. Claypool, Gunner - don't have that. Austin is definitely a upgrade.
Even if this team goes 5-12 - which is very likely - if we see progression with the young offensive core, there's some hope for following seasons.
Fuck, if you're going to lose 55+% of your games, at least score a shit ton of points and make the offense fun.
Not many here do this as far as I can tell, but please don't expect this kid to turn around a franchise and be anything like Ben. Just be happy that in his first game action that he wasn't absolute dogshit and gave the team a chance to win.

Kenny did more in one half than Mitch has done in all the prior games combined.
Even more importantly, he competed.

His only incompletions were picks - which obviously isn't good on paper, but he was decisive, not a pussy to take a shot downfield and defenders in his face.

I expect wins from Kenny. Will be disappointed by anything less. It will be 50/50 if we win until Watt, meaning will not be surprised with any victory until then, but then I expect we go on a run!kramer wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 10:54 pmAs long as Pickett makes the games roughly competitive and overall better than Mitch, I'll be pleased.

I'm not trying to come off as a asshole, but you realistically expect this team to beat any more than MAYBE one of the next 4 on their schedule?LakecrestSteeler wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 11:27 pmI expect wins from Kenny. EDIT: Not expect - but even think that have a realistic shot? Greater than maybe 15%?

And this doesn't mean that Kenny won't necessarily play like shit - or shit for a Rookie - but to outplay Brady, Hurts, and Hurts?LakecrestSteeler wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 11:27 pmI expect wins from Kenny. It's not happening, man.
McDaniel will torch this defense, so even if Bridgewater starts they'll out-scheme this overpaid scam of a defense

Any given Sunday. Our defense is legit with Watt, with a weak under belly at Bush.kramer wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 11:32 pmAnd this doesn't mean that Kenny won't necessarily play like shit - or shit for a Rookie - but to outplay Brady, Hurts, and Hurts?LakecrestSteeler wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 11:27 pmI expect wins from Kenny. I will need to see who has overtime, travel, Thursday game, late Sunday etc. Week to Week. Expect Watt to play as soon as he is eligible based on him hitting the sled.

Sure, but most Sundays Mike Tomlin is going to get outreached. McDermott is absolutely a better HC than Tomlin, McDaniel is a better mind offensively, and Philly and Tampa...
Brady scorches Mike Tomlin led teams.
The defense isn't great with Watt.
He is their lone consistent pass rusher.
Very happy with what I saw with Highsmith today, but I need to see a much larger sample size.
They aren't going to get a Bengals team who's QB hadn't played all PS and was coming off (I believe) surgery.
Or a shitty, non-existent team offensively in NE.

Not exactly your point but he also fucked up a pitch. Guy had some great plays and some questionable ones. We will see going forward.kramer wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 11:04 pmAbsolutely.

Yeah. Obviously I’m not disappointed in his play. But the usual suspects are overreacting to decent overall play.kramer wrote: ↑Mon Oct 03, 2022 12:00 amYeah man, agreed. Totally agree. Kenny makes quick decisive decisions. He’s a gunslinger. I don’t really follow college football so I didn’t see much of his time at Pitt. But has the “it” factor. The problem isn’t with Kenny. It’s with pansies like Claypool and the Watt-less defense.kramer wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 11:04 pmAbsolutely.

I mean, his second pick was because he was too indecisive and late on his decision and throw.
But in general, I just want to see Kenny show he's a playmaker and improve week to week.
We aren't winning shit this year. We weren't winning shit with Ben, Mitch, or god knows who else they could've brought in. This is year #1 of a rebuild. Let's just hope we've got our QB for the future. Wins or losses at this point don't really concern me.

*reserves the right to roots for losses*
We knew the team wasn't going to be very good this year but the only way it's a complete failure is if they don't come out of it know whether Pickett is the guy before the start of the draft. So the most important thing is that he's starting those games. I think the defense is good enough with Watt, if he's decent, they can beat anyone but will lose a lot if he's just ok. Ok or worse will get us 1-3/0-4. Any better than that and we will know for sure we have something. If not, we'll need more games to start feeling confident or mocking a QB in the first.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”
If Pickett blew the rest of the season Jesus Christ himself could come down and tell Mike Tomlin to draft - CJ Stroud, for example - and he would draft a long snapperRemoAZ wrote: ↑Mon Oct 03, 2022 2:04 amWe knew the team wasn't going to be very good this year but the only way it's a complete failure is if they don't come out of it know whether Pickett is the guy before the start of the draft. I don't think Tomlin is thinking too hard about this. We drafted this kid in the first round as the heir apparent and we need to see what he can do for us.
To me, This is just like when he dicked around with the media before the first game when they were grilling him around all the nonsense with the QB depth chart. He's taking a page out of the Belichick personnel handbook to try and get a competitive advantage for next week. It's kind of adorable, but he also knows damn well he would get run out of the 'Burgh if he put Trubisky in to start the next game.

You have to get KP a chance. We have to know if we need to go QB again in the draft. He should play long enough to get the answer.
The Steelers have won their game that they should have lost. I hav a hard time seeing them beating the Bills or the Eagles or the Bucs or the Dolphins. Miami could be the only chance and that might be because Tua should not be playing for at least 6 games.
When you see the writing on the wall, you are in the toilet. -- Fred Sanford
They’ve lost to Mac Jones, Jacoby, Brissett, and Zack Wilson…they most certainly can lose to Teddy Bridgewater.
Well put.
MT's balls haven't dropped yet and they never will. He's playing scared because he knows he sucks.
KP has a bit of Ben in him...willing to take a shot to make a play.
This. In fact, I wouldn’t mind losing a bunch of close games provided it wasn’t due to KP shitting the bed and making us question the pick.tbsteel wrote: ↑Mon Oct 03, 2022 1:54 amI mean, his second pick was because he was too indecisive and late on his decision and throw.

As long as KP and the O start to develop and show promise I’m fine with the defense shitting the bed and leaving us with L’s.
An experienced KP next year who’s dialed in with the offense and receivers paired with some fresh top of the draft talent on D is a good thing.
We aren’t winning anything this year with this defense.
Cam is old and everyone else relies on TJ to get all the attention.
Pickett absolutely does have a bit of Ben in him.
He loves playing football and loves to compete. Pickett was having fun out there.
When Ben played, there was an energy in the stadium. An expectation that we were going to win.
Kenny is bringing that back. The Jets lucked the fuck out yesterday, no two ways about it.
Pickett is gong to win a bunch of games in the black and gold.
