If we could redo that coaching hire, knowing everything that we know now...I would hire tomlin again.

Nothing easier than predicting a team won't be champion every year until the end of time. Ohmygosh he was right! I'm now going to go out on a limb and predict denver will never win more than 1 championship with john fox as head coach.

Chemistry, loyalty, leadership, togetherness, trust, composure, etc etc etc

all are important to building a team. Not sure why anyone would dispute it.

2 things I know for a fact.

1. Ron doesn't like Tomlin because he acts black by wearing sunglasses, even though he has a white name

2. Steelers still tied for most wins in the AFC right now

Wow. Didn’t know I was going to be quoted out of context, or that my paper was going to be graded.

Sorry, steeledge. Since it was a hypothetical, perhaps it would better have been stated, “I would have been hypothetically more okay with a season or two around 8-8, if it were hypothetically leading to a restoration of an attitude that made (hypothetical) people afraid to play this team.”

Of course, for me to root for further future losses would be kind of goofy. But then, for you to assume by my remark that I am rooting for future losses is sort of … well, whatever. Have a nice day.

His post game thoughts are generally pretty accurate. Some of his long-term prognostications have also come to fruition which infuriates those that really want to see him look stupid for taking the risk and laying his opinions out there.

I remember when RON was preaching team "chemistry" a few years back and many on this board absolutely dismissed "chemistry" as an intangible that means little in the bigger scheme of things.

I say ... BULLSHIT. Player personalities that make up "chemistry" is an absolute must on any winning team.

So team chemistry is important? Groundbreaking!!! Who'd a thunk it???

I'm a big believer that it's important to understand both sides. Being overly negative is no worse than being overly positive. Best place you can be is in the middle where you can get a good view of both sides.

I was just presenting that other side, that's all.

Personally, I'm much more down on the league overall than I am the Steelers. I'm at the point where I hardly even care about the team anymore just because the overall league is so bad.

While I agree Ben has been bad (as in, missing open receivers when they are there for him to throw to, and making poor throwing choices), i have to ask you if you truly believe any QB could thrive under the system installed and with the players on offense that the Steelers currently have.

I guess what I'm saying is I agree with your original thought in spirit, but I would NOT be okay with ANOTHER season or 2 around 8-8.
We've already been there, and it's getting old!

If we could get back to being THE feared team in football (Seattle Who?), THAT would be THE fix for this team.
I'm still hopeful, believe it or not, but things haven't been trending well.

Someone tell me I'm wrong. I was not optimistic heading into the game. What I see on the o line terrifies me. I see only one player that plays with "bad intentions" and really good technique: DeCastro. Everyone else is technician without meanness (Pouncey), fat tubs of goo (Foster, Gilbert), or try hards with limited physical tools (Beachum). The front line is as soft as my four month old's ass. I want to be wrong. Tell me I'm wrong. All those picks, man. It's the biggest problem on offense. Holy Jobu, what could Bell be with a really good line in front of him?

Have to agree with you. The FO has sucked at bringing in talent.Everyone keeps giving Colbert a pass on the players he had success in past years but come on look at the garbage he has brought in. He killed us with huge signing on old fat players like Woodley and Colon. I remember how proud he was on drafting Mike Adams saying we got a top 10 first rounder in the second round. Why did no other team take him before us. We have the best Oline coach and without talent he can't do much with them. Look at 2009 draft , all gone. He had to take Mendenhall who was a head case and out of football now.
Last year only player drafted worthy is Bell. No one else wanted JJ in round 1.
Colbert needs to go as NFL is what have you done lately league.

This team is void of talent, save maybe 3-4 players. They have been 8-8 2 years in a row for multiple reason age, injuries, drafting low for a number of years, and coaching.
They are in a rebuilding mode. It is what it is, it will take 2-3 years to get back "on top" with building through the draft, FA, and firing/ retirement if coaches.
I'll still route for a win every game, but won't expect it. At this time they are an average team.
That's life in the NFL.

Considering Ron once said he was coming to Toronto to tear a family member apart limb by limb - no affection but when we all said that Tomlin was a good choice for HC - Ron outright said we were doomed. I thought he may even have been temporarily banned for using the cool Shaft analogy which was deemed racist but in retrospect was apropos. It's not the 1-1 but how the team presents itself.

I appreciate that, Blu. I don't talk to hear myself. When I say something, rest assured, I mean it. Tomlin is in over his head...

Ron doesn't line Tomlin because he's all style, zero substance. He lacks understanding of basic football coaching fundamentals. He's all image, and it ends there.

I always speak my mind, regardless if whether it's a popular opinion or not. I don't tow company lines, do very little rah-rah, and may not always by PC. What I say comes from my heart, and if that rubs some the wrong way and ruffles a few feathers....well, that's too God damned bad.

This is completely "hindsight is 20-20" crap. Shoulda, coulda, woulda. This is very simple. Tomlin showed the same impressivness that made Dan Rooney hire Noll and Cowher. And he was right, again, to a degree. Tomlin's failings are in team building and talent evaluation. He can coach a talented team to the top of the NFL. He just can't build/re-build one.
