That move ruined Adams and forced the SHIT that is Marcus Gilbert on us for a very, very long time.

I've said Gilbert is fucking awful from the get go. Not once has he impressed me.

But what do I know. I guess you can't evaluate a player by ummm, watching him play.

I don't know why I am not with the Chicken Littles tonight, even after that slopfest. Maybe it's because my buddy made some money taking the under on my advice, which I knew would happen. Maybe its because we usually split with the Ravens - I had this one as a loss and though I didn't see the first half it looked close to me for much of the game. Until the very end when Forsett got the dagger run (which should have been called a TD) even our run D wasn't too bad. The difference is those two turnovers - 10 points off of them. We're 1-1 and i'm not panicking yet. I'm staying with 10-6.

That said, please allow me to register my complaints with Gilbert and Mitchell. Gilbert in pass pro was a turnstile, and Mitchell is a fucking hothead who cost us tonight. Tomlin/LeBeau have got to get that dude under control, either with a benching or something.

i don't see how we possibly beat Carolina.

Kelvin Beachum and Marcus Gilbert vs. Greg Hardy and Charles Johnson. You gotta be kidding me. Lotulelei up the middle with Kuechly right behind him? Yeah not a chance.

Remember, this is the front 7 that made Mike Mitchell look like a superstar last year

Did we knock Flacco down at all tonight? I think he was touched 3 times.

I don't think so

We have two outside linebackers that were 1st & 2nd round picks, what were they doing tonight?

Did they make a difference?

Do you think DCs will fear our duo?

I posted this on another forum one week before the season started

6 - 10

Positives
1. Elite QB ( great in no huddle)
2. 100 catch #1 WR
3. Game Changing SS / quality SS backup
4. Improved ILB corp

Negative
1. lack of team depth across the board ( other than SS and ILB)
2. lack of NFL quality pass rush
3. lack of NFL quality Run D
4. predictable Offensive play calling
5. CB's playing 10 yards off who will not be allowed to play physical under new rules. They will get flagged or they will get beat.
6. Mentally weak team. Game changing big plays and undisciplined fouls will kill momentum

The 2014 Steelers will try to play a high octane new age NFL style game. Ben and AB can do this. Can the others? I doubt it.

The 2014 Steelers will try to go score for score with other teams. What will ultimately kill them will be another year of losing the turnover battle. I cannot see an increase in interceptions, sacks and fumble recoveries.

The 2014 Steelers will again lose games to teams they should dominate.

A generational change is upon us. I see a solid corp of young players that you can build a very good team around. I just don't see a persona / mentality / mind set / swagger that indicates this team is capable of dominating and teaching those players to grow into greatness. I don't see this team fighting to the end for each other particularly when I see them getting stoned an hour before a flight for an away game.

This team is lacking quality leadership from top to bottom across the whole organisation.
This is a self entitled old boys club. (With the CB corp looking like it does, you bolster it with a William & Mary nobody. Seriously.)

I hope I am proven wrong and made to eat crow.
If not heads will need to roll. (that is me being optimistic)

I am guessing that I should remove points 3 & 4 from my positives list.

Looking back I think I was being way too optimistic

Nahh man, it's a marathon...it was a shit show tonight, long way to go...and PS fan get a glimpse of an explosive offense and expectations rise...fucking painful to watch though...it's close to 4 AM and adrenaline makes sleep so distant I said fuck it, I'm going to put a dip in and start looking at OT tape...

StillerInCT wrote:The OLine being the problem is bullshit. If you watch the game Ben was looking to release about 1-2 seconds after the snap on just about the majority of pass plays. Blame the OLine all you want (it has some warts). The reason we didn't make a single throw over 20+ yards is all scheme/play calling. At the very LEAST we could have tried for the token PI call.. But we didn't.

I tend to agree.

I don't see this OL as being any worse than the one when Arians was here, and we threw downfield then.

Not reay to give up on this team yet, but damn, that was the worst six quarters of football i have witnessed since probably the first two games of 1989.

Need to see some spark of hope that it's going to turn on for the defense so that they are at least passable, though.

The problem is there is no choice but to call routes that are out on less then three...otherwise BR is going down like Jenna Rice.

We can't trust our slot WR or TE in the middle of the field.

I like AB, Wheaton is growing on me, but they are road kill in the middle of the field (incidentally if that wasn't a personal foul on the AB hit...NONE OF THE HITS BY OUR DBs were fouls)

Run blocking is still horrible...Bell looks like Mccoy only more powerful.

What it comes down to is our offense is one of the softest units in the NFL.

Regardless of how the OLine looked we were looking to throw short from the first snap of the game. 90% of plays we didn't even give the OLine a chance to suck. The ball was ready to come out in less than 3 seconds.

We'll probably go 8-8 and all the Tomlin defenders will say, "But but but, he never had a losing season!"

I'm telling you fellas. It's dead. You can see it in Troy's face. That guy doesn't know what to do. This team is filled with players that don't fit the profile of what a Steelers player is. Sure, there's "athletes" everywhere, on every level. Very few tough guys. Very few capable of rolling up their sleeves and bare knuckling it. Ben, Heath, Troy, Brett, and Ike are the last of that tribe. The rest of these guys? Soft. Totally soft...

The steelers are going to set records this season.

- least number of sacks ever
- least points on offense ever
- least number of turnovers ever
- most sack allowed ever
- fattest, dumbest o line ever

When Cowher retired, there was a standard. There was a profile. There were types of players we drafted. Was Earl Holmes the athlete that Timmons is? Nope. Who'd I ride or die with? Holmes 6 days a week, and twice on Sunday. Would Hartings beat Pouncey is a footrace? Not a chance. Hartings was twice the man. What about Brown and Ward? Sure, Antonio is a really good WR, but he's not Ward. He doesn't have his presence, and certainly doesn't have his fear factor. There are a few guys. Guys like Heyward & Bell. But the rest? Jervis "Stenosis" Jones? Cam Thomas? Marcus Gilbert? Etc-etc....SOFT, like Carvel...

Have you ever had a Carvel Ice Cream cake? Way harder than this team. I struggled to get a fork through it and I'm not talking plastic fork either. Carvel is goving this team too much credit. They are not even close to the Carvel of Ice Creams

Jervis doesn't deserve to be on your hate list this morning.

He has comported himself well and, aside from a few miscues, is playing quite well.

The rest of your post I have no arguments with.

The team went speed, and forgot that with speed has to come toughness and discipline.

This team has none of that.

I better see a spark for optimism in the Carolina game, or I am officially entrenched on the "Everyone must go in the coaching staff and FO" bandwagon.

And agreed, Ron...simply isn't Steeler football.
