One of the stupidest things ever. I get some of the things they incorporated to speed things up a bit, though I am against timers in baseball generally. But everyone was primping and pimping out there, they had to do something about 4 hour games.
But this idiocy. When a game goes to extras, it kind of makes sense that it is going to be a longer game. No need to speed that part of up, people are already prepared for a longer time. Plus it is absolutely ridiculous that without a hit or a walk, without doing anything really of worth, you can take the lead or win the game in extras with a guy scoring who doesnt even belong on base. With you on this, brother.

Manfred did this.
Not just to speed up games, but to prevent wear and tear on 26 man rosters.
Wait until they implement designated pinch runners? They're already testing that in the independent leagues.
So the best power hitters don't ever have to run the bases.

I believe this rule originated in international softball. When my daughter played high school softball, nearly 2 and half decades ago, they used this extra inning rule.
Now why MLB decided this was good for their game…who knows? But I’d wager the TV networks had something to do with it.
