Week 12

[Steeldrama]

• Watched a little of Oregon’s beat down of PJ’s boat rowers on Friday night. Dante Moore played like a potential top overall pick, BUT it was against PJ’s boat rowers so who really knows. The playoffs will sort the men from the boys.

• Any of y’all go down to the North Shore for Game Day? I watched from Brown Couch Island, but if I still lived up there I probably would’ve gone. Thought it was great yet cringey all at the same time. McAfee’s opening monologue was an odd mix of yesteryear, a shot at Nutting, and a forced attempt to acknowledge he was there for a Pitt game. In the end, I was reminded that Pittsburgh sports is really down right now.

• Pat and Saban’s homerism of a bad WVU squad was unnecessary but hardly unexpected. Overall, I dig McAfee, but he earned the crowd jeering him with chants of 13-9 in reference to his 2 missed FGs in the 2007 backyard brawl.

• If Jen Latta’s piece on Lawson Lucky and his brother didn’t strike a cord, you might not be human.

• MORE JESS SIMMS! How fucking hard is it? Send her out to the tailgates or one of the many local establishments McAfee was name dropping.

• Aaron Donald pushing Pat off the set for once again pimping WVU at a PITT game was quite necessary and awesome.

• ESPN and all networks need to stop depicting Pittsburgh as this old school, blue-collar town. Forged in Steel? Sure 50+ years ago. The shots of steel mills are from an all but gone generation. I know when I go skiing at my buddy’s Hidden Valley home, or golfing with another buddy at his home at Nevillewood, I’m not thinking “Hey, Pittsburgh is an old school, blue collar, steel town.” Time for a new identity. Time to stop living in the past.

• Fire Narduzzi, yesterday. Such an unlikable toolbox. I WISH he would’ve lost by “100.” Game didn’t matter? Your team sure played like it didn’t matter encapsulated by Jardarian Price dragging a Pitt player 20 yards while hanging on to his jersey for dear life. “Blue Collar” my ass. Enough already.

• Marcus Freeman a cocky dude in his own right, but good on him pushing away from Narduzzi post game after that shit-off stupid timeout to score a meaningless TD. BUSH LEAGUE coaching. YOU SUCK, Narduzzi!

• Speaking of bush league…My son spotted the Texas State Trooper bowing up on the human racehorse, Nyck Harbor after his TD. I was all like well that’ll be all they talk about from this beat down. More wrong I could not be. SEC teams had been 0-286 when trailing by 27 at halftime. Make that 1-287. Crazy comeback by the Big Mike and the Aggies.

• Nothing like homecoming in T-Town. Unless of course you’re dumb enough to schedule Oklahoma. Kalen DeBoer is over his skis. Ty Simpson wasn’t comfortable all day thanks to Venables high pressure defense.

• Speaking of Venables. Stop shopping at Baby Gap. We get it, you’re jacked, but buy a shirt that fits.

• I cannot speak enough to the change in atmosphere at Georgia home games. Kirby and UGA did a phenomenal job turning a once tame Sanford Stadium into the best atmosphere in college football.

• Kirby was extra juiced yesterday. Going for it on 4th and long then a subsequent onsides kick was out of character. I get it was a BIG game, but it all didn’t become clear until postgame when Kirby said, “You’re not just getting checks at our place…we’re hitting people .” MAJOR shot at Texas and Sark. When Kirby doesn’t respect you or your program, you’re in for a LONG night.

• In their past 3 meetings vs Texas, the ‘Dawgs have given up a TOTAL of 83 yards rushing.

• Gunner Stockton the polar opposite of Carson Beck. Old school Ford 150 and aww shucks vs Lambos and women. Vegas odds say he won’t beat out Mendoza and Sayin for the Heisman, but kid needs to be in the discussion. Y’all don’t want any of Gunner come playoff time.

• Congrats to the Hoosiers on their first ever 11-0 season and to Fernando Mendoza for becoming the Hoosiers single season record holder for touchdown passes.

• scUM beat Northwestern at a baseball field.

Sunny and 70 here in white collar Suwanee, GA so I'm going to go play 9. Maybe I'll catch the 2nd half of the Steelers game, maybeeee I won't.

I'm just sure that Simpson needs to stay in school for another season and Sellers needs to move on from SC either in the draft or to a school that can refine him.
