Goalies

Post by swissvale72 » Mon Mar 23, 2026 7:48 pm

He's often a jackass, but Mark Madden does seem more knowledgeable about hockey than anything else… And is of the opinion that the Penguins best goaliec is plying his trade in Wilkes-Barre presently, that Murashov should be brought up and elevated into the regular rotation with one of the two present goalies remaining in Pittsburgh but not being active on game day. I guess he was active earlier this season Murashov was, didn't do so great, but that was when the Penguins were at their weakest defensively. Of course, they're not doing so well defensively right now.. and neither goalie has acquitted themselves well recently either. If they make the playoffs without making a move such as this, I'm guessing they continue the present rotation with neither guy being the number but rotating game by game.

I think the biggest issue is that it would hard to decide which of the two goaltenders now suiting up for Pittsburgh is better than the other. I've seen a lot of each and I'm not sure I have a clear opinion. I guess if you have two goalies, you really have none, or so the saying goes.

Silovs gives up 5 goals on 30 shots.

Bring up Murashov

I'm on the fence on the Murashov scenario. I think if were going to do that, it should have been something that should have been done a long time ago. I think if they thought he was ready for NHL play, he'd have been playing all season. And I also don't think they get Skinner in that trade. I realize the point of that trade was much more to unload Jarry than it was to get Skinner, but I feel like if were more confident in Murashov, they would have tried to get something else out of Edmonton, or maybe tried to move Jarry to a different team that would have offered a better skater as opposed to a goalie that wouldn't have needed anyways.

So, that's that side of the argument.

The other side is obviously that both guys we have are regressing right now and maybe doing /something/ and failing is better than doing nothing at all.

I think both sides are equally defensible, so I'm personally going to side with the team that is monitoring Murashov more closely. His numbers look like the've been pretty good, but there has to be something telling them he's not ready.

I also don't know NHL roster/contract rules well enough to know if there's anything preventing that move from that sense. I think there are some weird rules that exist about stashing players on AHL rosters near the end of the season, but I might be making that up as well, haha.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

As for the rest of that game, I don't even know. They looked tired. And I hate saying that about professional athletes. Modern athletes are so well conditioned that being tired never seems like a valid excuse. Then remember that some of their guys have been out with injuries until recently and they have even less of an excuse. But damn if they didn't look it last night.

By no means do I think they win that game if that goalie interference call went the other way, but for fuck's sake is the NFL ever creating it's own problem with these calls. If the NHL were more popular, this would be every bit of a controversy as the catch rule in the NFL.

Yeah… The ruling on the goalie interference are bullshit. On Saturday, pens goalie is practically knocked back into the stands and it's no interference. On Monday the avalanche goalie is barely touched, our guy is outside of the blue paint and they roll it interference

We surprised to see Skinner in net yesterday as it's been game by game rotation for a while. Hoping it's Skinner again tomorrow against the Islanders. Is it the case that Muse has decided that Skinner is his better option?

Looks like Silovs is getting the start.
