SBI Week 3: Post-Modern Bedwetting

Post by swissvale72 » Tue Sep 20, 2016 1:14 am

During and after a very big, very important, very compelling early-season AFC North victory, this humble writer cannot help but be drawn to the historic complaints from the readership that comprise this esteemed website's identity.

Many of my peers have sworn off their participation in the Game Day thread. I'm in between on this one. I refrain from posting much, largely due to my inability to multi-task, to walk and chew gum, to text and drive (though I still attempt this balancing act on a daily basis), to watch Steeler football and do anything else. I check the OP during commercials, however, ascertain the weekly bashing of the Offensive Coordinator in particular, regardless of who is wearing the headset during the course of a respective season.

The theme upon which I seized during the first half yesterday was the abject criticism of pulling the trigger on Go routes to Sammie Coates. Even after the first completion of 44 yards, setting up the Steelers first TD, the digs and chides continued, reaching a crescendo upon the pick of a Ben pass to Coates shortly before halftime, which the Bungals converted to three points. Only after the subsequent 53 harder to #14 did the fandom on this site Shut the Fuck Up. This site is loaded with frustrated O-coordinators, all eminently qualified to replace the guy calling the plays at a given time.

More bedwetting?? How about the post-game bellyaching about the announcer, in yesterday's instance the alleged Steeler Hater, Dan Fouts. Honestly, I barely listen to the audio on a Steeler telecast. If we could choose to activate the crowd noise and the officials' mike, I would be good with no analyst, no play-by-play. But I rarely believe that the man behind the microphone carries an inherent bias. Yesterday? Fouts correctly called, in hindsight, the Bungs being screwed out of a TD in the back of the end zone. That doesn't make him anti-Steeler. And the fumble call at the end? He simply got it wrong. Or...he got it only half-right. Yes, it's true that the receiver's knee hit the ground before there was any visual evidence that the ball was loose. Problem was, when his knee hit the ground, there was no sight of the ball....therefore no visual evidence that the ball was not loose. Final result....no conclusive proof on which to base a reversal of the call on the field....fumble. In the end, Fouts didn't bother me. None of these talking heads generally do. For my money though, give me Ray Scott from the 1960s. "Starr....Dowler....Touchdown."

A few game comments.....
*Difference in yesterday's game....redzone. Steelers were inside the 20 or thereabouts three times, came away with three TDs. Bungs were there three times...all field goals. This Steeler defense, while short on big plays thus far in this young season, continues to come up big.
*One of this site's posters proclaimed the Steelers punter as MVP yesterday. Maybe not.....but certainly worthy of game ball, pinning the Bungs inside their own 10 repeatedly.
*I watched Glassport's Jesse James throughout his Penn State career. He always came up big for the Nittany Lions. Now he's doing the same for his hometown team.

Next week's SBI:
*This year's regular season has got to be a first round bye. Too bad, still pissed off, that perhaps our stiffest competent for that bye, the smug fucks from New England, and the defending champs form Mile High, both escaped a Week 1 loss by virtue of a miss on very, very makable field goals. That said, here's how we have to root this week....
-Denver over Cinci....got to bury these dweebs from Bungal-land....open up a two-game lead. We'll worry about Denver losses later.
-Houston over New England....yes, the Texans are undefeated, too. They won't stay that way.

On to Philly on Sunday. I imagine some of this esteemed website's readership will be in the house, including that fuckin' jinx Barry Foster (er....Barney Rubble). I think we should pay Barney off, send him some swag for his defunct seaside South Jersey haberdashery if he stays the fuck away from Lincoln Financial on Sunday.

Wonder if Jeemie the Hall Monitor will be in the house, or whether he'll be doing a guest alumni appearance playing a wind instrument for the Penn State Blue Band this weekend

Do they still maintain an in-house courtroom and jail cell inside that building?? Steelers-Philly....no such thing as a gimme on the road in the NFL, but Steelers could well be 3-0 this time next week.

Cincy over Denver this weekend. The Steelers can take care of the Bungs on their own, as per usual.

I've made it a good habit not to comment during the game (in thread OP), only before and after.....It works!!

If you go out to the councourse for a smoke Sunday, and a guy tells you you need to back up 20 feet with the other smokers, good chance you just met Jeemie.

Ha... just like Swiss to call out the usual suspects. Everyone's a critic (including me). I enjoy and agree with some of the criticism at times. While other times it just has me smile. It's what we do here as fans.

Good pix, guys!

You can actually see me in full band geekdom in this video at about the 3:44 mark:

8-)

I was actually online back in 1987...I did undergraduate research for a professor and we were doing research with groups from three other universities- we collaborated online.

Cool vid Jeemie. I remember as a 6 year old trying my damndest to stay awake for that whole game. My grandma had to tell me who won in the morning, as my folks were definitely at a party somewhere watching it. The year before when they lost to Switzer's Sooners, I was at the Orange Bowl. First football game I ever attended.

PS: The think that drives me out of game day threads is that it feels like people forget that the Steelers are playing other professionals, who prepare, work hard, and train their asses off to play football too. It's like, "well DeCastro got driven back there, he sucks." like he's playing against a high schooler and not Geno Atkins in pouring rain.

Wait! So you’re saying the other guys get paid too? That explains everything.

The one thing you have to remember is most people on the game day threads are drunk out their asses.

Nice, Swiss. I would love to see the donkeys lay a beatdown on the freckled little guy, similar to the one they laid on Cam Newton. I have a special dislike of whiney Cincitucky fans, because I grew up with them (in a little Ohio town on the boarder of Bengals, Browns, and Stillers country). Bengals fans are some of the most annoying fans of all time. They are Camaro-driving mulletheads, who are given to outbursts of, “Who Dey,” in the same annoying tone as they used to break forth with, “Yeah…Big Red Machine.” The big difference, of course, was that the big red machine was actually a force.

They know not much about football, believe that the only way others could possibly beat their Bengals is by cheating (or by paying off the refs), that their guys can do no wrong, and that any Ohioan who roots for anyone other than the Bengals is on par with Colin Kaepernick. In short, they are loud morons. Now, they are not the only moronic fans around. There are plenty of moronic yinzers, I guess. But at least our morons are interesting. Cincitucky fans are fiercely loyal to a perennial also-ran team in a town known for making SOAP!

Last year, I started in September, responding to social media posts from my Bengal pals proclaiming that … “this proves that the Bengals are for real this year…” with this simple response…“wait until January.” Sure thing, just like clockwork, January came, the Bengals imploded, and the Stillers stood by as they defeated themselves. Again! And, of course, I posted…“Of course the Bengals lost. It’s January.” I was summarily unfriended by like 100 people. Good riddance, says me. But I do go on.

I would love to run the table in the division. Last week’s win, minus Bell, and with two tight ends that add up to a single season of experience, was fun to watch. But whether or not we actually end up needing the help, I will be rooting for a Donkey victory, and a bruised (but not broken) Freckle-faced Andy. And, of course, my second favorite team is always whoever is playing the Cheats. We Appalachian people have long memories.

LOL. Excellent that you posted "wait until January" and of course the...." of course the Bengals lost, it's January." 100 people deleting you because of that? WOW, I'd call that addition by subtraction. Good for you. Thanks for the story. Great stuff.

Nice Stuff Swiss...didn't see the end of the colts broncos game but if as you say the colts missed a makeable fg to win, that's 2 in a row in similar fashion for the donkeys..Carolina also missed a makeable fg vs Den. Den could very easily be 0-2.

Thanks Greek....not what I'm saying about Doncos though.....was referring to Week #1 v. Carolina.....both Denver & Pats could/should be 1-1 now due to missed FGs.

Was waiting for someone to raise that question, Lit, and figured it would be you.

Truth?? I just liked the way it sounded. I honestly did research the def of post-modern, and realize it has very little, if anything to do with the topic at hand, right?

Post-modernity most properly refers to the abandonment or rejection of metaphysically certain standards that characterized modern and enlightenment era philosophy and science.

I suppose the bedwetting could be do to the abandonment of sensible standards?

Bedwetting is an essentially measurable phenomenon as this can be quantified in the urine volume of soiled sheets.

It can only be operationally defined if we are talking about being a total pussy in the face of minor adversity. Neuroticism on the five factor personality test would be one operational indicator.

So depending on how you define it, the phenomology of being a total pissant is fluid.

I thought I'd clear that up since this was my Ph.D. thesis...

So, post-modern fits, Dr. Smith, in your learned estimation??

Yes. The term bed-wetting may also be offensive to some of our friends in the piss drinking community. Their sexuality is more fluid than ours and we must be tolerant and reject cis-piss hegemony.

Could also be DUE to abandonment of said standards, right?

As an aside, since when did SteelerFury get so geekoid-brainiac? Oh, yeah. Lit finished the PhD. Cool. Congrats, my formerly-pretentious, but now academically-accomplished friend.
