2016 Opponents

Post by Steelers4Life » Sat Feb 13, 2016 4:29 pm

I was curious as to what your thoughts are on The Steelers' 2016 opponents:

Home Baltimore, Cincinnati, Cleveland, New England, NY Jets, Dallas, NY Giants, Kansas City
Away Baltimore, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Buffalo, Miami, Philadelphia, Washington, Indianapolis

Playing the AFC East and NFC East, and the 2nd place teams from the AFC South and AFC West.

A couple of my observations:

No trips further west than Indy. The home game w/ the Cheats could be a HUGE one in determining home field advantage.

The game at Cleveland is essentially a home game for the Steelers. Not sure about Buffalo....do Steeler fans take over that stadium as well?

I've heard Philly is a bad place to go for fans of opposing teams. Does Steeler Nation show up in Philly or do they avoid it?

Been to Steelers/Bills a couple of times. And yes we absolutely take that stadium over, in fact we take over every stadium..only one I cant remember if it was a complete takeover was lambeau field.

I was at Lambeau for the 2013 game right before Christmas with Stillerz Barz. He can back me up as I believe the stadium was about 30% Steelers fans. Not a takeover, but definitely a great representation in a very loyal town and fan base's home stadium. Best visiting stadium I've ever been to hospitality-wise, food/beer-wise and otherwise.

I like the fact that most of the games are very close to Pittsburgh, the only long trip being one to Miami. Everything else in a few hours drive of the Burgh. Good for fans, but also for the players....no long west coast flights.

Limited travel is good, but sweet jesus look at that schedule!

If this team doesn't play to the level of their competition and goes after home field aggressively, that's as easy of a road schedule as you'll get - I'm talking 8-0 away. Fairly brutal home schedule, but at least 5-3.

That's a schedule set-up for 14-2. Except given the Steeler history and trends, they'll shit the bed on the road against bad teams and it will be another struggle/nail-biter to get to 10-6 and squeak in as a WC.

You really couldn't ask for a better home/road breakdown, especially with the AFC East.

And if it's PIT turn for the script, they'll give us @CIN in the first 3 games while Burfict is suspended, and NE in the first 4 while Shady is suspended :D

NFL owes us after making us play at NE without Bell and Bryant.

Steeler Fans are there. It has never been crazy as other places but, they are there. That being said, I have never been to any other Stadium where the home team fans are as hard on opposing fans as the Linc or the shithole Vet before it. Worse than the old Giants Stadium by a long shot. Could never bring the kids to a game in Philly which is a shame because I am a short distance.

Yep, I don't recall the Steelers ever being successful in Philly, whether the Eagles were any good or not.

Steelers last won in Philly in 1965, when Iggles played at Franklin Field. I watched that game on TV, was Steelers first win after an 0-5 start. They won the next week, the proceeded to lose their final seven games in Head Coach Mike Nixon's lone year at the helm after replacing Buddy Parker only a couple of weeks before the onset of the regular season.

To be fair, Steelers haven't played much in Philly since their realignment to the AFC. They lost, obviously in '08, their first game in the City of Brother Love since '97. They lost in '91, their first trip since '79 when they lost to the Iggles 17-14. This was the only time in my personal history with the Steelers that I chose not to watch the entire game. This was pre-DVR, pre-VCR, and the Pirates were playing the Cubs at the same time on the last day of the regular season, on a different network, and the Bucs won to win their Division on their way to their last World Series title.

The other memorable game in Philly, of course, was the 1970 season finale, with Frenchy Fuqua ran for over two bills, including runs, per my memory of 77 & 85 yards, but most remembered for Joe Greene, taking the ball and hurling it into the Veterans Stadium crowd on his way off the field.

And we still lost!!

Man, this current Steelers team can definitely snatch defeat from the jaws of victory at times, but not on a weekly, year-in, year out basis like the 1933 - 71 editions always did  (a span, during most of which, BTW, my dear departed Dad was among the longsuffering season ticket holders + the road trip to Cleveland every year ;) ).

Game where Larry Porn was trying to get a message across, and the dillweed o-line wasn't listening to him. Then Tomlin went off on the turds telling them to get their heads out of their asses and listen to the man.
