Interesting read for those that have lived or live in the 'burgh.

The Map That Unlocked the Mysteries of Pittsburgh
The Allegheny County belt system was part of this innovative tradition. In the late 1940s, an engineer with the Allegheny County Department of Public Works named Joseph White devised this color-coded series of five routes that traversed, or, in some instances, made a complete circle throughout the county. The routes used existing two-lane roads, not limited-access highways, and their concentric patterns offered drivers various means of getting around the area without having to go downtown. (A pedestrian-friendly sixth route—the two-mile Purple Belt in downtown Pittsburgh—was added in the mid-1990s.)

I lived in PGH for 24 years and wasn't aware of this.

When I was a full-time salesman in WPa, I used to live and die by the color belts. I loved maps when I was a kid and studied the hell out of the first color belt map I got from Gulf Oil in the 60s. In a town with no perimeter interstate and so many geographical features/rivers/bridges, it was google maps before google maps.

I remember when Justin Strzelcyzk told me his last name had 3 vowels, and that the red belt went past the graveyard from Night Of The Living Dead.
I was 7, yet I knew he would have thrived in a post-apocalyptic Pittsburgh as our Warlord / Mayor. Meanwhile my bus stop which was red belt adjacent was in the driveway of Andy Warhol's lover / guy who forged the original art pieces Andy bought then sold them as originals keeping the original originals, true story, (cough) ( Walter Stedding) played the violin on Blondie's the Tide is High (their worst song) so I cannot help but have a soft spot for those old color coded signs that remind me of Steelers Uno, Troy is a draw four as he should be. Can someone PM what day it is?
Should I have candy ready tonight or tomorrow?

I grew up there and saw the signs all the time and didn't know what they meant.

Ka BONG! I hate you for figuring out life faster than me. However I was able to channel that hatred into a KABONG type of chess tournament in my mind where only I am allowed to play Nick Nolte and where you yell KABONG as loud as you can in the hopes that Denver somehow someway somewhere invents a time machine where Larry Flynt does not rape Judy Collins but instead just gets shot by Ernie Steppe from Steppe brothers drag racing (NHRA) and Billy The Kid racing (NHRA Champion slash local mobster; and by local mobster I mean the guy that shows up at your house about 2 hours after you left for work and then tells your wife you are infested with cockroaches after letting about 30 cockroaches loose near the U bend of your sink, damn mobsters) and then also wipes up the blood while we pick the damn 2019 roster again and we FUCKING take Diontae Spencer over fuck-face Switzer. I am so pissed that the leagues number 9 punt returner/ receiver they are using to fill the Emmanuel sanders void with (and he is up to that challenge) is a guy we let go while the leagues number 32 out of 32 punt returners is our frucking punt returner, FUCK!!!!!

Your wisdom fills me with awe. Except the part about my having figured life out. That hasn't happened yet.
