I had Cook pencilled in as the starter to begin with, but may alter the draft plans.
I have to think there's real concern if Jones ever plays again.

The real concern is if the guy DOES play again. He’s dogcrap!

It makes OT a day 3 pick. A Need where they should not have one.

Too bad for the kid but he’s probably done. He never seemed serious enough about being a professional football player. As a first rounder, he had maybe a few adequate games while throwing up some real stinkers, never stood out or showed any signs of improvement or solid play let alone stardom. Certainly not a long term franchise player

Probably not wrong.
But hopefully McCarthy does a better job of hiring OL coaches than Tomlin. After Meyer(?) was such a disaster he "quit" in December, they just promoted Smith(?) whom somehow remained for 3 YEARS!!!!
Aside from Muncak, Tomlin's OL coaches were hot garbage. Other teams, at least a few, have been able to build most of their OL in the mid-rounds. Sort of like how when we had Ben and WR coach Mann, we consistently hit on stud receivers in the mid/late rounds.

He was too raw coming out and could not be trained up in time.
I'm really not becoming a fan of Georgia's Oline coach. They all seems to have the same issues which need to be fixed.

The mocks that have us taking Freeling, let alone trading up for him, have me worried for pretty much this reason.

Actually, given the experience with Pickens, Jones, and even Washington, I’ve become skeptical about Georgia guys in general. Paired with our former coaches, they seem, at best, to develop slowly if at all as well as exhibiting a variety of traits concerning “rawness”, immaturity, teachability, personality and overall suitability for the pro game.

Guy had great athleticism, could have been great. A guy who knew how to play OT beat him out really.
Hope he was smart enough to keep his money safe.

Pickens is tough. If PS had a good QB believe puts up big numbers. Of course, that doesn't prevent him being a pain in the neck on/off the field but given where he was drafted, Pickens was an outstanding pick. Washington given where he was drafted has been a very good pick.
I say this annually but folks' expectations on draft picks beyond round 1 is inflated. Draft analysis tidal wave on YT and social media doesn't help. That and daft fuckers using phrases like "plug and play," as late as the 5th round.
Back to Georgia stable: Jones looks a bust. Heard someone last year (think it was one of ex PFF fellas) say if a player runs hot/cold in CFB, likelihood is they will not become a consistent performer in NFL. Jones has moments when he looks excellent, then on next play is ducking his head/bending his waist and resembles a turnstile.
Plus, when Jones loses his confidence whatever technique he has sprints over the horizon. Feet get too close together, he lunges and the inevitable ducking his head. Reminds me of the tackle in Ben's prime who once got so out of sorts he accidently blocked a pass rusher with his ass.

Pickens is a top ten WR in the NFL. The Steelers have been a joke offensively for several years and he was still a stud. Stupid to give him away for peanuts in a contract year and spend a fortune on DK. Imagine what those two could have done paired together with a legitimate OC and head coach.
