Because Tua and DeShaun Watson might be available or we could sign Vinnie Testaverde to a record contract?
Any other ideas about how to assure 5 years more of failure and 150-200 m dead money?

Tomlin is finally gone, but most people are still struggling to breakout from doom & gloom.
Some talking bozo makes something up, it gets posted here, and then multiple people whine about "this team is done until Rooney goes".
Do we really need every thread devolving into someone making something up Rooney is going to do and citing that as proof why the organization is doomed?
Tomlin is done. The outlook for this team hasn't been better in 15+ years.

6'-0" can not see the middle of the field clearly with five OL in front of them that are 5" to 7" or more taller than them and 120-150 pounds wider.
Now add a few more inches for helmets.......
Add in three or four 300 lb defensive lineman tryingto get around those 5 OL......and the visual gaps close, the trhowing lanes disapper some more.
Now shoot an ILN or safety thru some open holes...........and the middle of the field gets cloudier.
Unless you are Drew Brees or another Pro-bowl / HOF tpy player and have a mind that knows the best throwing options before snap......
Now take away 2 more inches..........
and you have 5'-10" Kyler Murray.
A few inches matter.
Ever play a pick up game of basketball against someone who is an inch or two taller.........its noticable in getting your shot off.
Now playing against a 4 or 5" or more difference..............you are changing your game.
I would not look at a QB who is less than 6'-2"....
Unless there are exceptional skills ( P.M.) , can read the field in college....before they get to the pros.
Bker Mayfield and Jalen Hurts are two guys that are 6'-1"..........
they both bring a particular set of skills that counter their height.
After 7 seasons in the NFL.........
Murray is a HARD no go.
Your ceiling with Murray is lower than the ceiling that was for Tomlin.

You can say that again.
Arrow pointing up.
1. 12 draft picks...............need alot of roster turnover - go BPA with those first 5 picks.
2. 5 top 100 picks!!!!! ( #21, 53, 76, 85, 99 ) in no particular order - ILB, DL, WR, OL, S
3. 7 picks in the first 4 rounds !!!!!
4. Add to the trenches, I think you should add one OL and one DL in those first 5 picks....knowing on the OL - Broderick and Semu, on the DL knowing Cam will be 37 in a month or so and 38 by the next camp...if still around.
5. Stop handing out big contracts to your favorite past prime players.
6. Some good cap space. That extra space is from many 1st rounder not getting second contracts ( bad 1st round picks ) do not reach or trade for a player that is not BPA.
7. Cut and save potential with non-difference makers - add to cap.
8. But certainly keep an open mind, it will be tuff to roster all 12 picks........... ( a 5th, (2) 6's and (2) 7's are all not making the team ) trading away a 5th and a 6th or a 5th and ( 2) 6s to get another 4th rounder............probably makes sense if a player is falling or gets lost in a run on another position.
9. No Tomlin loading the back half of the roster with safe and familiar faces, or his guys or brother from the same mother or brother from a friends mother, etc....
10. Add speed and athleticism in the draft and to the roster in FA

Hard NO to kyler Murray. It’s been well reported he doesn’t study. Add in the fact he’s short and often injured makes his lack of dedication to his craft even worse.
Plus he screwed my baseball team the (at the time) Oakland A’s.
They took Murray with their first round pick when he was coming out of college. He chose football. The A’s were left with a wasted 1st rounder.
He should have stuck was baseball. Was considered a 5-tool player.
He didn’t want to play in the minors though and wanted the instant gratification (and glory) of going straight to the NFL. Further proof he doesn’t like to grind/work.
If he really was a 5-tool player he would have climbed through the A’s system quickly and once he made an impact in MLB would have gotten traded to the Yankees and would’ve making a shit ton of guaranteed money.
Which female rapper wrote the “Don’t want no short short man” song?
That needs to apply to the Steelers QB position.

Murray has made like $170M in the NFL. I think he's probably good with choosing football over baseball.

Your BBall analogy is perfect. I'm 6'3 1/2 (with shoes on I was 6'4) 235lbs (playing weight) and when I played someone 6.0, they looked small compared to me. I grew up Ballin in the early 80's and back then BBall was a tough/rough game in the post area, and you best be ready for contact.

I'd sign Bill Murray before Kyler Murray just based on height.
And in either case, it would just be Fields redux Groundhog Day.

I’m sure he is too. But that’s because he wanted the big money up front from the NFL.
He’s on his way to becoming a career backup. Could have made more over time in the MLB. He didn’t want to work for that.
He didn’t work once he got to the NFL.
Thus my point on him being a hard no for the Steelers to bring in.

That's what makes them the Jets. He's missed A LOT of games in 3 of the last 4 seasons. More so than any other position, if a franchise QB can't stay on the field, he's DO NOT SIGN.
And that's ignoring the performance/ability issues. He'd maybe be a fine bridge QB for next season, assuming he'd play for $15-20M. Wouldn't even care if he got hurt because Howard playing would be part of the plan, anyway.
Obviously I don't think any of that works for Murray. But if we're thinking 5-6 games for Howard, then maybe the other guys aren't worth stressing over for 10-11 games vs. Rudolph. FWIW, the Steelers seem perfectly fine where they're at with or without Rodgers.
They might be eyeing a few mid-round guys to take a flier on if they slip, which is why they want an answer from Rodgers before the draft. Maybe aren't ready to cut Rudolph as the future backup, so they need to know if that 3rd QB is going to be Rodgers or a rookie.

How much is he asking for?
I’ll be happy at this point with anything better than trading a premium pick for a non-franchise qb or giving a $25M+/year contract to a backup.

Please God no. He's NOT 6'. I'm 5'9" and if he's taller than me, it's by a cunt hair or the lifted sneakers he wears. The guy is too small for the NFL. He's injury prone. They put a clause in his contract to force him to study X hours of film per week because he wouldn't do it, only for the pussy owner to take it out after they got criticized. Then there's the "he's not a leader" you hear all the time. He also rarely runs anymore, which I'm sure is because he's afraid to get hit by guys 2 or 3 times his size (and rightly so). Trust me, you guys would hate him. He seriously looks like a little kid playing with men when you see him live. If Tomlin was still here, I'd put money on them bringing in the former #1 pick. Let's hope McCarthy is smarter than that.

- Former #1 pick
- Considered a mobile QB
- Former “pro bowler”
- Opportunity to elevate a young black man.
You can bet you ass Jibbs would have jumped all over Murray.

Seems like consensus is that signing Rodgers is a bad idea, signing Willis is a bad idea, signing Murray is a bad idea, drafting a QB this year is a bad idea.
Anyone have an idea other than giving the keys to a 6th rounder who is light on tools and hasn't taken even a preseason snap?

Bring in either Gardner Minshew or Joe Flacco to back up Howard and roll. That would be my plan. Then I know what I have going into 2027

I mean, that's reality. Or you can throw a tantrum like a 3-yr old that the Steelers don't have a "plan" where no decent plan really exists. There are 32 teams in the NFL, less than half have a QB any of us would want.
The only plan when the music stops and you have no chair is to leave.

Does he use a step stool or platform shoes?
He nade 170m? That should last him a year once he's flushed out.

Serious question as I'm not clear on the rules.
Arizona will take a $54 million dead money hit and he's still due $36 million in. 2026. How is this different that Wilson who we paid only $1 million and Denver paid the rest?
To be clear, I do NOT was his short, injury prone ass in Black and Gold but id still like to know what the rule is on this.
Thanks to anyone who can explain.... correctly

I think what I saw was AI clickbait that indicated he had been released. Actual reports appears to be they agreed to allow him to pursue trades.
But presumably when that doesn't happen, he WILL be cut. I don't see teams falling over themselves to trade even a 5th, plus take on his contract, given the results.

For all intents and purposes the Murray situation is similar to Russ. Can be signed for the league minimum and Cards have to cover the rest. My understanding . . .

I was going to say, lifelong, that signing Murray is the equivalent of signing a shorter, less clutch version of Russell Wilson but instead of a religious obsession Murray can’t put down the video game controller.
Sounds like a championship to me!

Fair enough. not arguing for him, but i believe his numbers and record as a starter are better than pre Minnesota Darnold. Pretty sure no one here argued for Darnold before Minn or before last season.
I'm tired of this whole process. I'm in for Rodgers if it doesn't take months or, signing Willis if it's not longer than a 2 year deal. I'm fine with drafting a previously highly rated QB with one of the 3rd/4th picks just to have another dart to throw at the board.
