PEKO!

The Pittsburgh Steelers have hired former 15-year NFL veteran defensive tackle Domata Peko as their new defensive line coach for the 2026 season. Peko, a former Bengals standout (2006-2016), joins the staff under new head coach Mike McCarthy after previously coaching the defensive line at the University of Colorado.

Key Details Regarding Domata Peko and the Steelers:
Role: Defensive Line Coach.

Background: 15-season NFL playing career (Bengals, Broncos, Ravens, Cardinals).

Recent Coaching Experience: Coached the defensive line at Colorado under Deion Sanders (2025) and served as a defensive assistant for the Dallas Cowboys (2024).

Replaces: Replaces long-time defensive line coach Karl Dunbar.
Context: As a former Bengals standout who played 11 seasons in Cincinnati, Peko brings significant AFC North experience to Pittsburgh's defense.

The de-line certainly needed a new voice, a new direction.
Like most think...Benton is not a NT. And he has regressed ... tho he came along at end of year, has potential to be better.

Two more young pieces in Harmon.... could be a stud..
And the big Yak.
I would add another to that group with one of first 4 picks.... maybe a 4-3 DE?

Heyward swan song year... and that's 5 easy pieces to the dline puzzle.

How close to a 4-3 can we be?.

Highsmith. Listed at 6'-4" 242.... as acrookie..
Is he closer to 255-260? Can he add 10-15 lbs? And be 4-3 DE?

Add that rookie 4-3. DE

DTs Heyward Harmon Yahya. Bennett.

Can Bennett lose 15-20 and pick up the speed needed to play 4-3 DE?

Peko was a pretty good player for a long time, but I don't know if I'm really sold on the idea of bringing in a former Bungle who played his entire career in a 4-3 and then went on to coach with Deion in Colorado. I mean, I'm sure he's his own guy. He never did anything stupid himself, but it's like the mediocrity he's been around for years is kind of contagious I think.
