From his jumbled up explanatory bullshit press conference. He's trying to slime his way out of responsibility for any negative thing that he caused.
He's a front runner when things are peachy, blowing kisses to the cameras, talking manly and dancing and prancing like a rockette in the locker room with his men. When shit hits the fan, it's someone else's fault and he turns into a REMF weasel.
From the DK vid from a couple days ago. He's not wrong in some respects, but it is a weird way to put it.
In general, I agree with them. Um, and from this perspective. Um, football is our game, we’re in the sport entertainment business. And so, um, if you root for the Steelers, entertaining them is winning. And so when you’re not winning, it’s not entertaining.

Hmmmm....winning playoff games must not be entertaining then. I stand corrected.

I’ve probably explained this before
But he’s correct.
The NFL is registered as Entertainment
The same as WWE
Why is that?
The logical answer is so they can’t be investigated for fixing the outcome of games
Add to it the nfl owns a gambling organization
And you can see where this is going
I have a friend that has officiated at all levels including the nfl. This is also a person that has a very high level security clearance
When asked if the nfl is fixed, and why don’t they correct officiating issues that are readily “fixable” - his answer is, “the nfl is entertainment” “that’s all I’ll say”
Chat GPT says the nfl is fixed.
Mike Tomlin may have come as close as any upper level employee ever has, to admitting the nfl is rigged
Maybe Tomlin has direct knowledge and that’s why he always gets a free pass
Some of the calls in the ga,e against the bears were not only really bad but incredibly suspicious

I’m not denying the NFL isn't rigged to some degree. It’s why they want such loose interpretations of the rules which enables them to manipulate outcomes.
My question then becomes, why would it be rigged against the premier black head coach in the league?
Wouldn they want his team to win so they can plaster his mug all over the world? They can praise diversity while Jibbs is jabberin dat he’s going to Disneyland ?
Seems we’d be getting a lot more favor if the league was truly rigged.
The real answer is that it’s rigged but only to suit the gamblers and the mob that runs those rackets.
They don’t give a shit bout diversity or successful black coaches.
Ultimately I dunno. I do know if it’s rigged it certainly isn’t helping us.

The NFL changes rules, schedules, and whatever other league-wide policies they can to generate as much entertainment, whether direct (the games themselves) or indirect (media coverage and fan commentary/outrage).
I personally do not believe the NFL, as an organization, goes anywhere near as far as to predetermine outcomes to games.
For one, if it was that blatant, some mentally unstable player like Antonio Brown would have blown the lid off of that a long time ago.
They may very well use refs to influence games, but if so, my bet is that they're told to call games to keep the games more competitive and, thus, entertaining (hence the "sports entertainment" designation). Meaning that the refs call games more favorably for teams that are losing (almost similar to hockey refs and the infamous "even up" call).
Now, I have no doubt that individuals within the NFL do their own versions of rigging with point shaving and whatnot. But I highly doubt those things are being pushed by the league itself.

It's long been my assessment that players decide the games, and if there is a fix, they're generally not involved in it. In other words, they are playing to the best of their ability.
But could the game that the players are deciding somehow be manipulated through advanced level choreography which has been designed to generate certain drama? I can't say for sure, but it sure does seem that many professional and collegiate sporting events build tension all the way to the end where they have high drama centered around the Las Vegas line(s).
How is this accomplished? Here's a simplistic example:
Steelers have a 2nd and 7. Through alignments of the offensive and defensive players, it can be reasonably assured that Jaylen Warren can catch a pass and gain 4 yards before he is initially contacted. From there Warren will clearly gain a first down if only one player tries to tackle him after 4 yards. But if two guys are able to get to him within the next 3 yards, maybe it is a 50/50 proposition whether he can be stopped or not. Based upon alignments, drama can be manufactured, or not.
This seemingly only works if the coaches utilize a specific group of plays that can generally generate expected outcomes for player alignments / player reactions. That's to say, the players effectively have to perform like highly trained, multimillion dollar robots.
Of course if the above were true, perhaps we would have heard a scorned coach spill the beans on how he was being obligated to call certain groups plays from particular formations designed to keep the game within audience levels of interest (close to the Las Vegas lines), rather then blow a team out through a weakness that could be exploited. But that could be career suicide too, and prevent said coach from ever getting another multimillion dollar deal himself.

What I meant is, maybe Tomlin has that knowledge and that’s why no one calls him out and why art won’t fire him.
It’s a stretch, sure but other than him having evidence of Art being on the other team -what is there?
Two plaupyoff wins since 2010. (I think I have that right)
Anyway it could just be that art is chickenshit and afraid to confront the Rooney rule backlash if he fires Tomlin

Rigged and scripted are not the same thing.
Tomlins attitude is disrespectful to fans though. It's also interesting how he sort of distances himself from any actual responsibility in the situation. And seeming elevates himself above all of that trivial thinking.
It also explains, at least to me, many of the Steelers oddities and reinforces the idea that things are not going to change while he is part of the team.

Manipulating injury reports is also a good way.
And did you know there's holding on every play. And every LT in the league is allowed to false start. And is it possible offsides isn't called on the defense sometimes in certain situations?

That seems like a given. I doubt there's a direct mandate for it, but I bet the officials figure it out from the grading.
Wouldn't it be a fun research project if you could get the grades if refs grade out higher in games that come down to the wire?

The players do not know
The only people are the heads of replay (who are always in NY) and possible the umpire/head official.
Also, I don’t believe every game is controlled.

FIFA as much as admitted it in the past.
the NFL doesn't rig outcome. they rig controversy and score differentials. they do it because their enormous TV contracts don't want people tuning out in bad and non-close games and to help the industries all around the game .... espn, podcasts, pre-game, news etc ....
they don't care so much who wins but how the game is played and if there is drama and controversy and close games.
PI and Holding are the perfect tools for this.

They have given the refs like 50 different "judgement" calls to administer under Goodell. Ones that can and do swing games with their impact. It was nominally done in the name of player safety.
Replay reviews are a joke. You can see the same thing called differently in two games in the same week even though it's a centralized decision making process now. Don't even get me started on the supposed standard being "indisputable evidence."
It can be very hard to see the difference between rank incompetence and a conspiracy. But yea, the officiating crisis the league suffers is of its own making. Shit was just a lot simpler back in the day, more black and white.
I've been bitching about this for a decade and a half now, but it aint changing. Most fans just continue to consume the slop, happy to see the point explosions that make their fantasy leagues more interesting (and don't get me started on the gambling).

IMO / pre-game show talking heads and game commentators pimping player prop bets is a huge problem.
i don't know why they felt the need to go down this path

as a better you may be better off listening to pre-game "story-lines" then looking. at statistics to bet:). they manufacture drama, controversy and late game comebacks

That is a bad move. Should have just stuck to calling who was going to win each game and keeping a scoreboard for each person for the season.
