Thought we could use a new thread,
since B took our extra curricular forum away.......lol

I have promise for this beast.
Here is to hoping he is a mean and nasty version of Dan McCullers.

i THINK HE ONLY HAD 10 SNAPS.

If they hit on Black, and hitting on Black is a 50/50 gamble.....

Then Benton, Black and Harmon is a pretty nice nucleus on the DL.
Add another DL in 2026 draft...... 3rd / 4th rounder
and get to a point where you are Eagle like pounding the shit of of OLs
making QB's feet happy,
hurrying throws, etc.

Black was just moving motherfuckers with ease.

God I hope it continues when the real bullets start flying but this kid could have a major role in the defense this year if he keeps it up,

Baldinger on Yihya vs Panthers

https://sports.yahoo.com/article/top-an ... 96d3Ykq8kN

He is really good at pushing, extending his arms and then pulling his guy forward to get past.
That's strength

Yes. Preseason...
And playing vs lesser talent.
But when was the last guy we had that looked like this in Preseason?

With Harmon out a bit, have to think he may get 15-20+ snaps a game., knowing the Steelers employee only 2 DL on a majority of snaps and Cam and Benton will be receiving the bulk of the work.

Freakish arm length.

Excellent lateral movement for a man his size.

Also despite pad level a good anchor.

Needs to show it against better personnel but he has been a really nice surprise.

Seems at very least he will be a solid rotational piece.

Yeah, a tremendous breath of fresh air. It is funny, if he had been in drafts of say 15-20 years ago, Black probably would have been a 2nd round pick.

Now days, in todays NFL climate, too many teams are preoccupied with getting players that check certain boxes.

It used to be, as I said, 20 years ago, that a DT could have elite length, strength and power and that was enough to punch their ticket in the first and second round. Most of the time they ran 5.2-5.3 40s, that wasn't really important.

I will throw out some names, remember players like John Henderson and Marcus Stroud? Or Shaun Rogers? Or Kris Jenkins?? Jamaal Williams?? Linval Joseph?? Guys that were 330, 340, 350 pounds, who had long arms and strength and power.

Most of those players that I just mentioned were never double digit sack artists but were lucky to get 3 or 4 sacks in a season and yet they made Pro Bowls and All Pros.

I love what I see from Black in terms of using his hands. I see him grabbing wrists and elbows of an offensive lineman, I see him push with those 35 inch arms and then grab an elbow, wrist and pull, a push-pull technique that gets the Guard/Tackle off balance. And he is doing this as a rookie???

Yes, yes, still early, but it looks like the Steelers got a 2nd round talent in Yahya Black, he looks like a young Shaun Rogers, Kris Jenkins or Linval Joseph, all huge men that went in the 2nd round.

Black’s availability to start this season might be the most understated aspect in all of his early success.

“Keeanu Benton is dealing with an upper-body injury. However, there's optimism he'll be ready for the season opener against the Jets.”
