Schlereth Calls for Fields to Start

I'm not the only one saying it! Russ's 2 minute drill this weekend was so bad he has to be benched. A high school quarterback would be better. Russ is weak, he cant see the field, he bails more frequently than Kenny Pickett. He HAS to be benched. Put Fields in and even if he cant read a defense, he can at least run the ball.

At this point and time, Fields should be the starter against Ratbirds. I know there are posters here that say he can't scan field or not a good thrower. I rewatched the Colts game and he was throwing some darts on the run. He has the best chance to make plays with his legs as well. RW is done. With JF in there Ratbirds have to keep a spy on him which can open MOF. He terrifies teams when he's outta the pocket. Can he be any worse the RW right now. How hard is it to design rollouts for JF. Him running an RPO is scary.

Schlerth is a bit biased…he just doesn’t want to look wrong from calling Russ a bust at the beginning of the season.meanjustinbarlow wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 5:40 pmhttps://steelersdepot.com/2025/01/mark- ... card-game/

There is however absolutely nothing to lose using Fields!

I think Russ might be on a short leash this week, if he struggles early I wouldn't be shocked to see Fields inserted, I think Tomlin knows the heat is starting to get turned up in the media about his lack of playoff success, so he will probably coach with a sense of desperation.

Fields sucks but you want Milroe. He's terrible.
The Steelers are gonna draft Milroe when he drops though. Guaranteed. Totally fits their recent history. Unfortunately

I sure hope not. I'd rather take a flyer on Taylen Green in 4th or 5th. If Starks isn't there for them in the 1st. Hoping they draft Emeka EgbukaSteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 8:18 pmNever said thatgojira5150 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 7:59 pmSteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 6:31 pmFields fucking SUCKS

For the season, Fields went 0-2 when the other team scored 14 or more points (4-0 when we held them to 13 or less).
With Wilson, we’ve allowed 14+ points in all 11 games, and 21 points in 6 games. In his 4 year career, fields has never won a game where the other team scored 21+. He’s like 0-23.

Schlereth's Russ hate goes back to his Broncos. He can't stand Wilson.LakecrestSteeler wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 5:49 pmSchlerth is a bit biased…he just doesn’t want to look wrong from calling Russ a bust at the beginning of the season.meanjustinbarlow wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 5:40 pmhttps://steelersdepot.com/2025/01/mark- ... card-game/

He is, and I believe all the players got their estimated draft slots already, so it's not going to change. He needed to stay.SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 9:58 pmI think (?) Also, the Steelers taking "project" QBs is a total waste of our time and the player's career with our current staff. Might as well just see what Omar Jacobs is up to and let the kid go somewhere he's got a shot at developing.

Taylen Green is going back to Arkansas (they're loading up for a run next year) and he'll probably go top 5 picks next year.gojira5150 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 8:47 pmI sure hope not. Did Cam Ward need to stay this year? I would argue that he didn't. The way he played coming out of the blocks in September was where he would have been when he hit training camp last year. teams were just too dumb to give him a deserving draft grade because they didn't believe their own eyes when it came to admitting his original college scouting rating was a million miles off.Ice wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 9:35 pmHe is, and I believe all the players got their estimated draft slots already, so it's not going to change. Korey makes this point all the time: some smart NFL team is going tell Green/Can Ward/Drew Allar, "Listen we will take you in the 2nd round come hell or high water. We'll put it in writing. We'll get you mom and dad no-work jobs, we'll get you commercial deals, etc. Just go into the draft anyway and we got you.
Why not go to a good team instead of waiting a year to go to a bad team? If you're a good team with no shot at picking top 5, it's your way to get an elite prospect-- draft him earlier than when he's an obvious finished project. win-win.

I don't think Taylen Green (and only watched a few games this year, so take it with a grain) this season was where where Ward was last season, in terms of what I saw on the field, so I'm not sure it's an apples to apples comparison, but I do think Green could benefit from another year of PT at the college level.
He could go pro, sure, but if the "good team" that gets him is us, he's a little bit forked. If he goes to somebody like the Niners or Rams? Steps into a backup role on the Vikings? Even maybe the Dolphins? Could be something.
Wherever he'd go in the pros, though, he's not going to be playing the kind of meaningful snaps that can really help you learn, and I think he needs more of those. Cam, even last season, was what he is. Green needs some more time in the oven, IMHO.
