I'm not really sure what kind of an idiot is running things at Jets HQ but they are proceeding with formal interest in interviewing Smith as a Head Coaching candidate for the Jets.
Somebody here must have been living right.

Other potential coaching candidates for the New York Jets
While the Jets are interested in meeting with Arthur Smith, he’s far from their only candidate. The team has also reportedly reached out to Mike Vrabel, Ron Rivera and Rex Ryan. The latter is expected to interview with the Jets on Tuesday. Evidently, Ryan is confident in his chances of landing the job.
“The reason I think I’m going to get it is because I’m the best guy, and it ain’t close,” Ryan said on ESPN New York. “The thing that you have to do, you have to connect with a football team. You have to connect with your fan base and the way they play.
“That’s the most important thing, not just the x’s and o’s and all that. Look, this Ben Johnson, I love him. I absolutely love him, but I’m a better candidate for this job than he would be.”

Replace Ryan with Tomlin I would 100% believe Mikey said the same thing.

Maybe we could see a deal where Smith goes to NY and as part of his exit deal takes Pickens in trade for Garrett Wilson?
They’re looking at many coaching prospects…. Here,

It's going to be Rex's job. Honestly I wouldn't mind him being the Steelers' next HC

Always nice to be made aware of an evidentiary reminder that a dumber franchise than ours exists.
But only barely. Steelers are a mega dumb franchise.

My friend the lifelong Jets fan said that just before that 3rd down conversion from Ben to AB was the peak moment of his life.

In my opinion, here's the next great assistant on the path to future stud NFL coach:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T._C._McCartney
Kyle Shanahan/Alex Van Pelt/Les Miles tree
As QB coach, coached rookie QBs Drew Lock, Brett Rypien, Drew Lock, Joe Milton... all of whom showed marked improvement
worked as TE coach alongside Bill Callahan... big plus for understanding of blocking schemes/techniques
Personal:
His father was Sal Aunese... great college QB who died of stomach cancer at age 21... two months after TC was born.
His grandfather is an icon of college coaching, Bill McCartney (top assistant under Bo Schembeckler, then HC at Colorado... inducted into the college football HOF)
Since Mayo got fired, I would think there's at least a possibility a new HC would bring his own guys in... maybe he's available as an OC. He certainly fits.
If they move on from Alex Van Pelt, maybe Van Pelt comes as OC and brings Mccartney, but that doesn't seem like a great move for either, even though AVP has the Pittsburgh connection (born in Pittsburgh, played at Pitt, was on the Steelers roster as a UDFA) and most famously, was the offensive coordinator for the Browns team that crushed the Steelers playoff hopes in 2020. In that game, AVP called plays, even though he normally did not (HC was out with COVID).
but TC McCartney would be high on the list of interviews for OC for me if Smith left.

This would great. As long as Jibba is still here, he won't do it. If Jibba doesn't retire or gets canned after the Ratbirds beating. Art would have to tell him, don't go into the offensive meetings. Nothing to do with the Offensive game plan.

Our next HC (whenever the fuck that ends up happening) absolutely needs to be an offensive HC.
It’s the only way to go these days in the NFL.
Sure, you can find and hire a great OC. But great OCs do not remain OCs for long.
Shit, Arthur Smith has shown to be an idiot and even he is getting HC looks.
Dunce must hire an offensive HC. You can find good DCs and replace them as needed.

Maybe they're talking to Smith as a threat to get Aaron Rodgers to retire?
"Hey A-ron, if you don't retire, we're going to take our offense back to the stone age and make your job impossible. Your choice."

How about we just hire a head coach that is self aware? Then it wouldn’t matter. He would be aware of his shortcomings and hire rock stars.
Is being self aware not a common trait among great coaches? One could probably easily argue it both ways!

Because he’d have to hire those “rock star” OCs bout as often as Jibbs spews out catch phrases.
That was the point of wanting an offensive minded HC.

I would definitely be letting out a grumble if it was another DC oriented coach.
We have had 2 DC coaches…I would guess Noll was OC oriented, difficult to tell even from the wiki. Two defensive roles, but was part of Sid Gillman’s tree who was an offensive guru, and apparently Noll was an offensive guru of sorts for the Steelers until the late 80’s too. I will let the older furians speak to Noll’s offensive or defensive chops.

And now the Bears have also requested to interview Smith
to quote
@Korey39
"People are getting paid American dollars to make their team better at football and they think the path to that is interviewing Arthur Smith for a head coach position"

That helped a lot
