Doorslammers Chargers

Several players deserve some mention
Najee Harris ran hard in the 2nd half for several clutch carries to re-ignite a non existent run game in the 1st half.
The play of the game obviously was the CA3 TD and Austin Pickens Fields and DC Smith all deserve some credit there.
Waitman once again was huge in flipping the field several times
Patterson’s 3rd and 13 1st was a back breaker as well
The defense played uninspired ball in the first half but to their credit came alive against journeyman Henicke coming in for an injured Herbert. Heyward Watt Herbig Highsmith all had some notable plays throughout the game
The Doorslammer award goes to QB Justin Fields who had the best game of his career and delivered what OC Smith wanted to a tee
The Steelers are 3-0 with a 2 game lead in the AFC North. Great. Still, this observer doesn’t have much faith in this current team to seriously compete with the best teams in the league. They have severe needs at many positions. RB WR DL ILB TE CB and certainly QB is still not great if we are being honest. However it’s beginning to seem somewhat inevitable that the Steelers will sign Fields to a longterm deal. Certainly a few more wins by the numbers in the OC Smith playbook and it’s almost guaranteed. Like it or not.

Herbig he was the catalyst to completely shutting down the Chargers offense.

I've been a CA3 detractor, but that was a great play. I really hope to see more of that- it will open up Pickens and Muth for sure.

Here's credit to a patchwork O-Line led by WVU Country Strong Zach Frazier playing above the line if you will, obviously.

In honor of the official start of Oktoberfest and Perch

I don’t think it can be overstated how good he has been, and how awful Harvin was his whole career!
That pick was a huge bust! Harvin was like lead poisoning for the whole team!

Patrick Queen played like his hair was on fire. Really think he's a great tone-setter for the D and definitely he's best game yet as a Steeler.
Cam Heyward... man, that dude can still play. Was impressed by how he and the rest of the DL really bottled up the Chargers run game outside of one drive.
JPJ looked like a damn safety on that TFL. Thought he made some good plays getting off blocks all day. He bit hard on the TD though.
Given our struggles with it in the past, it's nice to have confidence in CAIII as a PR. He's smooth, reliable, and does a great job of always getting some yardage.
Fields was throwing darts all game.

I thought Highsmith was below the line. Defense improved once the Chargers couldn’t triple team Watt.

I would seriously consider starting Herbig over Highsmith.
My only hesitation is Herbig is kinda small - can he hold up over a whole game?

Najee looked nice and angry. Defense is overwhelming when the offense can at least just move the chains.
Fields is taking great care of the ball!
Wild card is if Roman Wilson can make a difference....

Pickens and Muuuth opened that play up for CAIII. The D was gonna eyefuck 14 and 88 since they were the only players to catch anything other than 22 and Bud Dupree.

Just imagine if Roman Wilson can be a baller.
I also gotta give Scotty Miller props. Made a helluva play early to help give Fields some confidence.

Depending on Highsmiths status Leal and Herbig are gonna have to rotate heavy to keep the undersized Herbig fresh. Otherwise just keep running towards him and force him to deal with heavy weight all game long.
Similar to what Pittsburgh did with LAC today. Lean on them with size.

The only players to make more plays than Scotty this season are TJ, Cam, Boz, Frazier & Waitman.
