Completely stupid observation

Post by anpsteel » Sat Aug 03, 2024 5:13 pm

I imagine most of you know, back in the old days... 70s-90s, before the more modern helmets were implemented, the Steelers helmets were essentially painted flat black, that they oiled/waxed to make it shiny for game day.

Essentially their helmets looked like an old fashioned bowling ball that had been shined up.

Anyway, today all teams have their helmets molded and the ink color blended in to the poly. They are all either gloss or metallic.

And I just noticed, all except the Steelers.

They are still clearly painted flat black and oiled/shined. Such an unusual thing.

You can see what I'm referring to in this picture, but if you look for it, it's clearly evident in pretty much every picture.

Now that you mention it. I may have to shine up some bowling balls of my own later this evening.

Yeah. I'm not sure I agree. I gotta believe all the helmets are painted/colored in very similar ways. Your photo is an example. The paint doesn't look any different to me outside of the obvious colors and pattern

If you look at the other teams with black helmets it’s very apparent
