Training Camp Visit

Evening,
I'm going to training camp this year. Little back story. I've never been to Pittsburgh, I've never even been that far north in the east (I'm from San Diego, California) I became a Steeler fan in the early 70s. My step dad was a real prick and loved the cowboys, so my disdain for him lead me to root for the Steelers to beat his shitty cowboys and it just stuck. Who roots for the chargers anyway?
I need some guidance on where to stay and what to do. I know I am going to explore the city of Pittsburgh and from what I can tell Latrobe is about an hour away? Maybe stay somewhere in between or in Pittsburgh and commute? Also, any advice on how to navigate the training camp would be much appreciated.
Is there more to do in the surrounding areas? I am going to be there for 3 weeks give or take. I already have a fishing trip lined up for lake Erie. What else?
Thanks ahead of time.

I came across this site recently. Lots of good ideas on trips and visits.

You gotta stay dahntahn. Take route 30 out to Latrobe through Greensburg and Ligonier. If you go out past Latrobe, you get up into the Laurel Mountains which is a nice visit, lots of vistas and scenery.

Exit the parkway…376…at forest hills, which will put you onto route 30….and stop at Vincent’s pizza park…worlds best pizza. Also go to triangle bar & grill in Swissvale

Friday Night Lights is always a good full day at Latrobe.
Think its Aug 2nd this year.

Met B2B there a few years back.

Exhibits, food, music, interactive football activities.
Then the intrasquad scrimmage.

Short video from last year.

If you get there early, can get up close, stand along the low fence and meet and chat with the players.
My kids were younger then and they had a good time, got some autographs.
