Those games were so much fun to watch - they weren't Tomlin's normal nail biter, win at the end games!

Haley had the offense rolling
Such a waste, that group never won a championship.
IF there ever was an offense that had more talent than Bradshaw, Franco, Swann & Stallworth, it was this group.
Ben, Bell, Brown, Bryant, and Heath.

When the offense was at it's peak, the defense was losing talent and Tomlin can't put a gameplan together for shit and they got beat in the playoffs by inferior opponents. When they were able to draft well enough to get the talent back up on defense, Tomlin neutered the offense to what we have today. Now, the try to win low scoring games where the stars on defense have to make a ton of "splash" plays. Then when they do make the playoffs, Tomlin still can't put a gameplan together so the once again get smoked. Only difference is they don't have a chance in hell of coming back once they get down. It always goes back to the man in charge. We have exactly what he's always wanted.

Yep. That's what scares me most about this team we have this season. I think it's one of those most well rounded and complete teams we've had in quite some time (assuming Russ/Fields can be even slightly above average).
But I'm terrified that Tomlin is going to use all the new linemen and Arthur Smith's run-first philosophies as crutches to be as risk averse as ever. I can practically hear the "We do what we do" quotes already.
And I know the quotes from players are already there about them being excited for the offense.
But those quotes were there last season too. And so were the preseason stats. We looked like the Great Show on Turf in preseason.
But the regular season started and our buttholes puckered tighter than a drum.
The good news, to me, is that if that does happen, Tomlin will be out of excuses. We went above and beyond this offseason to fill holes. A few still remain, to be sure. But this is the modern NFL, and every team has holes somewhere.
Any coach that is worth his weight in salt would get this team to the second round of the playoffs or further.
We'll see what little Mickey can do. If we ease into yet another season, we will get embarrassed with the schedule we got, and there will be a player riot.

I would say that with:
•. a really advanced and aggressive offensive approach
•. the QB playing better than he did in 2023 by a significant margin
•. some WR breaking out to do something he's never done before at an NFL starter level
• Friermuth having the best season of his career
•. the defense figuring out CB2 & CB3
•. the defense playing the right combo of LBs
• the defense and offensive skill positions suffering a way lower than average amount of injuries
This team could be competitive down the stretch and, if they should manage to compile enough wins in the first half of the season, could be in a position to win a playoff game.
However, my sense of a poor record and no playoffs is informed by how many IFs that is, how hard the schedule is, how many breaks they got the last couple of years late in the season, and how long I think it will take in the best case for the offense to be on point, considering the massive amount of change.

Those games were all-time fun.
Craziest thing from that video? Imagine AB in that offense going 4 games without a TD…

I mean, how many times did they unleash the offense like that? Even after a 500yd-6 TD performance vs IND, they came out vs Baltimore determined to play attrition football/run run and Ben make a play on 3rd down, which A. was getting him killed and B. kept them off the scoreboard. As soo as they started throwing on early downs and in the red zone, 6 TDs.
It's like the old joke: "Who was the only man who could stop Michael Jordan?" (Dean Smith)
The only three guys who could stop that Steelers offense were Mike Tomlin, Todd Haley, & Roger Goodell

Yep. We didn't have the coach in place. He has his merits but game plans and adjustments aren't in his trick bag.
