To be fair he was a LT being used as a RT. Not saying he would have been better on the left side but he was more comfortable there. He did fine there his rookie season when he got time. Looked like the Steelers had the LT for a decade. Then his second year he went to shit.

To me, this isn’t a Kevin Dotson type situation where Dotson looked goddamn near dominant on the right side and for absolutely no reason, the Steelers moved him to LG where he struggled mightily. Dotson goes to the Rams, is immediately installed at RG and becomes one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL.
That ain’t happening with Chuks. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was out of football in 2025. He blows.
I wouldn't say "he blows". I'd say he's average and he'll stick around the NFL if he's healthy. That isn't a ringing endorsement either. As long as he stays healthy, I doubt he’ll be out of football in 2025. One thing that’s been made clear from the departure of Dotson and Green and the 2 miserable seasons of Mason Cole, the Steelers O-Line coaching and talent recognition/deployment has been shit for a while. Another blemish on the reputation of the coaching staff.
I think it’s interesting that almost everyone that leaves has something to say about Jibbs, and it’s never positive. Like his coaching bona fides, his stellar reputation seems more myth than reality.
I wasn't endorsing Chuks but he had a solid rookie year at LT. He won the swing Tackle role after preseason, dressed for every game and when the Steelers went to the unbalanced line he was the 6th OL. Those are facts. Yeah, we watched 2 different players for sure. Dotson was outstanding (okay, maybe not outstanding, but SERIOUSLY PROMISING) his one year at RG with the Steelers. Unbelievably, they go out and find another expensive RG in James Daniels and move Dotson to the left side. The fact that they found it necessary to pay James Daniels big money to replace him was a brainless, imbecilic move to make and I said at the time it was stupid. As far as Chuks goes I made no argument about what he will do in NE. All I said is that they will probably give him a shot at LT. Be it in camp or preseason. I'm not getting ahead of myself there and certainly I wouldn't make a wager on what becomes of him this year as far as the NFL is concerned.

They just shit can them and they go on to play better elsewhere where everybody but the Steelers know the position they should be in. Seumalo is not the greatest at LG. I thought he played much better as a RG in Philly.

A combination of idiocy and arrogance on the part of the coaching staff. Dotson also probably made reasonable and rational arguments to the coaches pointing out why moving him to LG didn't make sense. Dotson admitted he was struggling mightily and talked about how playing on the left side after moving from his natural right side was like trying to do everything in a mirror. Basically every way he needed to move was the opposite from what he did naturally. That's when I knew Dotson was fucked as a Steeler. Could Dotson have learned how to play on the left side in time? With hard work, probably but it would have taken years. Also, left guards are normally more athletic and mobile. Have better movement skills for pass pro and for pulling. RG's are road graders...you know, like Kevin Dotson.
Only the fucking Steelers could fuck this situation up so epically.
I honestly think that is by design. I have mentioned this in other posts over the last few years. But IMO they keep the rookies off the field for the first 6-10 weeks in order to limit the rookie wall or avoid it. National champs play in 13 or 14 games? It used to be less but that year from playing in college (plus postseason maybe), to combine prep, to draft prep, to rookie camps, to OTAs, to training camp, to preseason, to regular season becomes a long year for a body. It is probably a rather unhealthy year physically.
