If the Steelers don't make the playoffs, calling my shot that this guy will be on the roster next season:
Bears will have the top pick and will go with Caleb Williams. The Steelers love them some failed former first round picks and the Bears will look to move on from Fields who would only have a year left in his deal.
I imagine the trade will be our 3rd for Fields.

There won't be a new QB.
So...there's that.

There probably won't be a year 4 of Kenny Pickett starting.

Let me add to that.
Pickett doesn't finish out year 4.
If he doesn't play markedly better down the stretch this year, there *will* be competition added to the room. Fields is a realistic scenario as Tomlin reportedly loved him coming out.

I would be for this. I don't think Pickett is going to be the answer.

No fucking way they deal for a third. You’re dreaming.
But I’d both do that in a heartbeat and feel ver y very very very bad for Fields.

Okay, third and a future fourth.
Fields is a failed first round QB. Trey Lance went for a fourth. Josh Rosen went for the 62nd pick. Darnold was traded for a sixth and a future second and fourth.
It wouldn't be a huge trade. He'd had one year left on his deal. Second rounder and a late pick at best IMO.

I'll be done with the Steelers after 40+ years. Not that I think Pickett is the answer but Fucking Fields sure as fuck isn't.

Oh, in no way am I saying I'd like the move. I'd hate it. But I think there's a real possibility it happens. Bears are starting over with a total rebuild. I can see us making a move and having an open competition between him and Kenny next summer.

Fields is a turnover machine. It makes no sense to even bother with getting a new QB until we get our next HC or if ownership won’t go that route, until they hire a new OC and give him a year with the current talent. Kenny will start next year, the year after that possibly too but not guaranteed.

Oh they aren't rolling into next year with Ken"doll", Mitch the walking turnover, and Bibberty, no way no how. They will bring in a FA or trade for a guy like Fields to give KP8 some competition, loser becomes backup, and would not surprise me if there is a guy they love in the draft that is available by moving up to the 10-12 range I would not be surprised if they pull the trigger. Look, we all think Tomlin is a dope, but he is a dope that prob knows his days are getting numbered, and I believe he knows Kenny isn't the answer, its why he's been treating him like he's Duck Hodges all season. Rest assured, KP8 will be on the roster next year, but competition will be brought in.

It will be Pickett for at least 2 full seasons.
They hire a new OC, and give Pickett two years.

Tomlin could have his pick of Johnny Unitas, Joe Montana, or Tom Brady, and he wouldn't win dick.

I doubt seriously Kenny will have any competition. Not the kind you think.
They could draft a developmental guy but Kenny will be the starter. Folks can get mad and stomp their feet, but when Pickett left today's game, it was 3-3 and the Steelers had a 4th and a yard at the goal line. I'm not sure Pickett has been stopped even once on sneaks and we probably come away with 7 points on that drive.
Everything turned on Pickett's injury. The defense gave up a 99 yard drive and the rest is history.
They will probably have different backup QB's next year, but if you're thinking Pickett won't be the starter, methinks you're going to be real disappointed.

I'm pretty sure the brass that runs the Steelers has already realized they probably made a mistake taking Pickett, he will be given another chance next season but someone to push him or beat him out will be on the roster in camp.

So Najee being pushed by Broderick Jones couldn’t get into the end zone, but Cubicle Kenny surely would’ve scored. Got it.
And bragging about a 3-3 score a couple minutes before halftime as a badge of honor for the QB shows how low the bar really is here for some. I just watched the last pick of Kenny’s draft class put up 300 yards, 4 TD passes and a 148 QB rating against the best team in the league on the road. It has taken Kenny 11 games to throw 4 TD passes this season.

A hand off to Harris is different than a sneak from a yard out.
How many times do you remember Pickett being stopped since he brought back the QB sneak as an option?
I honestly don't believe he's been stopped once trying to pick up the necessary yardage but if you can remember a time, I'd love to hear about it

I've been watching football for damn near 50 years, I can tell you 100% that KP isn't it.
-- Strong arm - Nope
-- Accuracy - Nope
-- Pocket presence - Nope
-- Toughness - Nope
-- Reading defenses / hots - Nope
-- Anticipation - Nope
The only thing he has really done well this year is not throw interceptions, even though defenses have dropped a half dozen of them.

Another thing on Pickett, I didn't watch him play much if even any at all in college, living in the south and all, but a while back Perch posted something about his college stats and how he basically sucked his first 4 years in college, so I went and checked his stats out, and they were abysmal, if the guy hadn't gotten an extra year due to Covid, he probably goes undrafted. Yes he had a great 5th year in college, but he was also a 23 year old playing against a bunch of teenagers. It was a horrible pick by the Steelers, I get the not wanting to miss out on another Pitt QB and all, but Colbert really fucked this organization hard for many years.

The weirdest part of this thread is we have losses like this every single year.
Mike Glennon and a host of terrible teams/QB's have beaten far better Steelers teams than this one.
I told my friend at breakfast I expected the Steelers to drop a game coming up to a bottom feeder....because it happens every year.
Why folks are freaking out is actually kind of strange.
