Free Agency so far

Post by swissvale72 » Sat Mar 16, 2024 2:31 pm

I'll start by ceding that so many of you do far more analysis than do I, are much more conversant with player on other teams, etc. That all said, here's where i am with Free Agency, a week in.

*I LOVE the Wilson pickup. It's still unbeleivable to me that a QB of that calendar will be under center for the Pittsburgh Steelers next season. And...he's talking about needing to win more Super Bowls, as in plura. It's truely exciting, something to look forward to.

*I'm really liking the Queen and Elliott pickups as well.

*I'm okay with the other guys.

But...

I'm not okay with the guys we lost, particularly DJ. I'll cede his weaknesses BUT he's a talented receiver, and I think made a good tandem with Pickens. Need to see who lines up at WR this year...will it be Calvin Austin most of the game?

Pickett....I clearly backed him all year. Steelers won with him....right, not because of him....but he didn't throw picks...yes, I know Steelers didn't take many risks with him, but the kid DID have some 4Q magic. And....his BEST game was at Cinci, then he got hurt a week later against AZ, and that was the last we saw of him.

Yes, his attitude was a problem. Just hoping we can score a decent backup to Wilson....and that he lasts.

Nice takes Swiss. Would adding a FA vet WR like Renfro, Williams, or Boyd make you forget about the little good about clank's game that will be missed? I doubt any of those three would bring back the same game/momentum killing drops/mistakes, or running backwards from a first down we shipped out with the deal. Not too mention, I'm
not going to miss the shitty attitude.

My biggest worry from the void left with that trade is they use a first or second on a WR in the draft (they were seen with most of the 1st round prospects), instead of getting the Oline set with a T & C. There's nothing left in FA at either position that would be considered an above the line Oline quality starter. But FA WRs are left that could be quality to high end starters to match with Pickens. Gotta think Khan is scheming hard for one of the starter type WRs, or at least eyeing TBoyd, as a quality #3.

One thing I almost forgot about is the second half of F/A after the draft/post June.

We know there’s going to be more cuts and more than likely better talent on the market not to mention potential trading scenarios.

I am impressed again with what Khan/Weidl have been able to do so far.

I believe they’re still not done.

Pickens is elite

Van Jefferson and Calvin Austin aren’t bad

I like some of the WR talent in this draft. Hopefully they grab someone capable of starting early

After that they have room for one more. I wouldn’t mind a scrap heap/solid vet type there

I’m not worried about replacing DJ

Talented WR ? Yes

But production wise the Steelers have reasonable options to replace what he brought
