Fuck it: ask Ben if he’d be the QB coach
It will never happen, but:
Canada is shit.
And Sullivan must be shit. In all this KP bashing, how in the world is Sullivan not getting any grief? He sure as hell isn’t coaching KP up or helping him improve his game.
I’d get on the phone and beg Ben to coach Kenny.
Obviously it will never happen and Ben likely has zero interest.
But if anyone knows how to help Kenny turn this offensive pile of lemons into lemonade, it’s Ben.
I know it’s crazy. Feel free to ignore this dumb therapy post.

You know, maybe part of the "Canada is the worst ever!!!!" problem is the QB fucking sucks

You can’t have Ben as the QB coach for Kenny
Ben excelled because of incredible physical abilities.
Kenny is never going to be that guy. He needs a tactician and mechanics coach
Ben would be all, okay now run the fuck around for 4 seconds, push the DLineman off you, then throw the ball 40 yards down field on the backside of the play

I think Ben could consult but not coach.
Hell he probably can't do either. He's been top dog for a long time. What the hell would he have to share with Kenny.

"I'm institutionalized, man," he joked. "I gotta have it. I just love the challenges week in and week out that this job provides: the growth in it, the collective growth, the individual growth."
That was maybe true for the first few years of Ben. Ben always had the ability to read defense post snap. He also got very good at reading them pre snap.anpsteel wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 11:08 pmYou can’t have Ben as the QB coach for Kenny

At the end of the day, I don’t think Ben can “coach up” a QB prospect — the greats often struggle.
I do think he has ideas on what works from a strategic and tactical perspective. If he could give someone strategic goals, have the other person design the offense, and then have Ben call plays you’d have something going.

Canada’s play calling was pretty awesome during that game so maybe you’re on to something. I especially loved the “Najee up the gut” plays after anything positive happened and the plethora of back shoulder plays. His scripted first 2 drives were Kyle Shanahan-esque.
…..and Gunner, Miles Boykin, Darnell Washington and Allen Robinson did an awesome job of getting open and taking pressure off Pickens. God knows how Kenny didn’t find those studs a few more times and hats off to the o-line for creating huge holes for the running game and clean pockets all day long!

Two-time Super Bowl winner reaches out to help struggling Steelers offense

According to Steelers insider Mark Kaboly, Byron Leftwich, formerly the offensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2019-22, has reached out to the team about being an offensive consultant.
However, the Steelers are reportedly "ignorning" Leftwich.
Head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters last week that there will be no coaching changes "at this juncture" — although, he did say he will continue to review it every week.
"All of that is coaching and elements of decision-making. I'm always looking at that, obviously looking at that," Tomlin said.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

When you don’t believe you have a problem you’ll never seek or accept any help.
Stupid not to add another set of experienced eyes to the offensive staff.
Beyond dumb. And shame on Dunce for putting up with this crap while continuing to pat his fucking lapdog on the head while refusing to “evaluate him”.
They should have given Canada help this past offseason after two awful years. And despite the awful start to this season they still sit on their hands.
As much as idiots fawn over NHALS consider this, Mike Tomlin has never won a playoff game without one of Bill Cowher’s coaches or players.

Ben not interested in coaching period. Sorry neither Canada or the QB Coach has really helped Kenny especially since leaving the pocket to soon and not getting the Ball out on time. Qb Coach should be helping him. The kid has regressed to a point
I joked about Ben's biggest flaw was not tying up Mike Tomlin and going full Varsity Blues in the 2017 AFCCG. Player-Coach combo.
I think there's still time for this season. If only the Steelers had a coked up Irsay instead of a Rooney in charge...

Let’s see…
Play golf, spend time with wife and kids, host podcast, vacation, and basically do whatever you want whenever you want or,,,,,,,
Become a position coach.
Ben is retired. He has enough money for multiple lifetimes.
He isn’t coming back.
Move on folks.

More so fantasizing about the only QB who might know how to help another QB steer the Tomlin / Canada offense as well as it can be steered, even though it has a lock bar on the steering wheel.zeke5123 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 12:08 amAt the end of the day, I don’t think Ben can “coach up” a QB prospect — the greats often struggle.

I assume you created this post because you just watched latest episode of Footbahlin? Ben goes into some detail about what there problems are from the victory, and then what they need to do in the bye week.Professor Half Wit wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 11:01 pmIt will never happen, but:

WR screens to the sideline, WR alley routes to the interior, 3-4 step posts to the TE (quick hitters), more WR screens...simple hitches...simple curls...WR route combos....one goes in, the other goes out etc.

Charlie Batch should be the QB coach. Ben used to find him after every series. He knows how to get the most out of limited physical skills.
Tomlin is too fucking stupid/arrogant to make the move though...

The Steelers are 29th in offense, and 29th in defense. We’ve managed 3-2 record with duct tape, silly puddy, and +5 turnover differential.
I think Ben would make a fine QB coach or offensive coordinator, although most have to work the their way up in coaching. But I’m not sure this group of coaches including Tomlin is worth saving.
Unless we can win our first playoff game since 2016, the longest drought since 1972. If not, we need new coaches across the board.

Ben would be sympathetic to the shit Kenny is dealing with and would help him get through it.
Sure, Ben had elite physical skills that few QB's in NFL history had, but once those started to wane, he still played great football for a long time by using his smarts.
Guaranteed Ben could teach Kenny plenty but frankly, Ben looks really happy sucking down craft beers, raising his kids and having a blast with his podcast.
i could see him coming back after Cool Shades left, but Ben knows better than anybody that nothing will change and that Kenny is going to have nothing but internal adversity to overcome if he's going to be successful.
Sad shit.
