Here's the link: https://www.steelers.com/news/steelers- ... man-roster

Gotta think a punter is getting traded.

Still need to digest this a bit.

Edit - Here are the cuts:
Zach Gentry, Tre Norwood, Luq Barcoo, Greg Bell, Jordan Byrd, Dez Fitzpatrick, Nick Kwiatkowski, Jonathan Marshall, Ryan McCollum, David Perales, Quincy Roche, Trenton Thompson, Xazavian Valladay, Chris Wilcox, Rodney Williams.

So when they trade Mann, who comes back (or what position group is added to)?

Gentry. No way we go with 3 TEs only, especially with Conor H. being rather FB.

Or Williams. Or a TE from elsewhere.

Agree with above...
Has to be a TE

all 6 of those WR's can not get a helmet

Game day inactives ? 5?

( 1 ) WR
( 1 ) DL - Watts or Loudermilk.
( 1 or 2 ) OL - Spencer and or Cook
( 1 or 2 ) DB -Pierre, Riley, Sullivan

Zack Gentry is a vested veteran meaning he does not have to clear waivers. The Steelers may be bringing him back after they trade the punter.

I'd add Mark Robinson to the list of potential inactives as well. He's probably only going to get a hat against run heavy teams like Baltimore, Tennessee, etc.

The way I understand it: if (and only if) you dress 8 O linemen, you carry a QB3 (makes original 53), then you only have 4 inactives on game day. So, 48 dress plus your "emergency" QB3. I could be wrong though.

If I'm correct, hope this helps. If not, sorry for the confusion. :D

It will be Gentry he is the 4th string QB as well as 2nd/3rd TE. Everyone on the team seems to really like the guy as well. He is a glue guy, hand in the pile. He has come a long way from looking like a deer learning to walk as a blocker to a capable NFL player. They may also pull the Charlie Batch move and sign him back after week 1 to keep the full contract from being guaranteed.

Somebody gotta play STs, man. I'd say 1 WR, 1 DL, 2 OL. That's it for inactives

2 TEs ….. 1. That’s just not enough 2. I guess we aren’t gonna see many 2 TE sets…..which is a damn shame

3 RBs and one of them is McFarland……not even close to good enough with the RB unit…..again…..as usual

I think the plan may be to use Jones as the third OT when they want a big set.

Once they trade Mann, think they’re going to bring back Gentry. No one was interested in him during free agency, believe that they’re just exploiting a team that needs a punter.

It’ll be interesting who they have come back for the practice squad, as you can now keep veterans on the practice squad. Would also be nice to see them pick some players off from others cuts around the league.

I like this plan but I also think Gentry comes back after they move Mann.

I think Gentry is gone for good and that they're looking for a backup center to add once they either trade or release Mann.

FWIW, Darius Rush was cut by the Colts today. Was a top 30 visit for the Steelers. I figure someone will put in a waiver for him.

Gunner has to have photos of Tomlin dressed as J. Edgar Hoover or something.

Yeah, the thing that we always gloss over is the special teams and how much sway Danny Smith has in that department.

Look, he had a lot of his special teams core gutted from last year. Derek Watt was a core ST guy (290 snaps), Benny Snell (284 snaps), Marcus Allen (230 snaps), then the trio of Robert Spillane, Tre Norwood, Artur Maulet, they were all in that 150 snap range.

All those guys are gone, who replaces them on special teams???

James Pierre had 196 special teams snaps last season and I expect him to be counted upon even more in 2023, I can see him approaching Watt/Snell to get up to 285 snaps. He is not going to be an inactive player on game day.

Mark Robinson is going to be counted upon to step up on special teams. With his physicality and underrated athleticism, you WANT him on special teams, I can picture him forcing a number of fumbles. I see him with over 200 snaps on ST.

Connor Heyward had 284 snaps on special teams last season and he was marvelous. If he plays more on offense, do they continue to use him AS much on special teams??

One player that I really liked was the 5th TE that wasn't mentioned as much, Rodney Williams. If they are going to bring back a TE, I wouldn't bring back Gentry, I would grab Williams because I feel like he would give you more as a receiver and as a special teams player. 6'3" 240 but has long 34" arms and runs in that 4.55 range in the 40 and has a 40.5 " vertical leap. You could line him up as a huge gunner. It would be great if they could keep him around and let him cook on the back burner, a lot of potential with him.

I hate that idea

2 TEs would be so much better

I'm definitely with you on Sims / Gunner

Not sure Roby has anything left though

Plus there's still the issue of the extra punter trade

I'm on the, its either Gentry or a back up Center, to replace the extra punter.

I'd be surprised if there are 18 DB/LBs active for game day. To me, if you're going to sit on it'll be Robinson.

They only have to have 4 inactives besides QB3. Might as well have every available body who are either the first backup up or can play STs. The OL/DL don't usually play much STs, so probably 3 of the inactives are from those two groups. TEs, LBs, & DBs are the vast majority of STers, so most if not all of them will dress.

I'd say a WR who doesn't play teams and isn't top 4 (Gunner?) would be the first choice, then an extra TE or DB I guess.

Maybe you'll be proven right but once they have any injured players who can't dress, it'll be moot.
