Big questions for 2023

Post by SteelerDayTrader » Sat May 13, 2023 12:33 am

In no real order

1 - Will KP stay healthy ? Im not his biggest fan but I don’t hate the guy at this point. I do think Trubisky is capable of being “ok” but at this point he really hasn’t shown it and if Pickett is injured for any length of time you gotta assume they will lose some they should win

2 - Will Calvin Austin return at least close to the weapon he was in Latrobe ? If he does I think that’s a BIG add. If not very little dynamic play at WR outside of Pickens

3 - Will the Steelers run defense be able to compete through the entire 4th qtr and dictate earlier phases of the game as well ? I don’t have much faith here although I like the Benton add. We will see.

4 - Will the Steelers open up the offense enough early to avoid too little too late scenarios late in the game ? I doubt it but hopefully KP forces the issue with solid performance when he does get the ball

5 - Will Harris and Warren stay healthy in a likely predictable run heavy offense ? I’m not sold at all on options we have currently beyond those two.

6 - Will the defense be able to develop a mismatch edge anywhere that forces teams into another area ??

I look at Austin III this year as a 4th round pick from this draft that got to redshirt a year. On the field he is basically a rookie still but as far as the playbook and understanding what to do, where to be, how to act like a pro etc. he is a year ahead this years rookies.

I do think Trubisky is capable of being “ok” but at this point he really hasn’t shown it and if Pickett is injured for any length of time you gotta assume they will lose some they should win (KP hit the weights this offseason to help do just that)

2 - Will Calvin Austin return at least close to the weapon he was in Latrobe ? If he does I think that’s a BIG add. If not very little dynamic play at WR outside of Pickens (If healthy can't see how he doesn't at least displace Gunner)

3 - Will the Steelers run defense be able to compete through the entire 4th qtr and dictate earlier phases of the game as well ? I don’t have much faith here although I like the Benton add. We will see. (MT has his plan to control the ball on offense and keep his defense rested)

4 - Will the Steelers open up the offense enough early to avoid too little too late scenarios late in the game ? I doubt it but hopefully KP forces the issue with solid performance when he does get the ball (If OLine holds up well look for them to air it out a bit more, Pickens needs to feed every so often)

5 - Will Harris and Warren stay healthy in a likely predictable run heavy offense ? I’m not sold at all on options we have currently beyond those two. (Harris fits what they want to do as an offense however MT loves to run the wheels off. Who is the third option?)

6 - Will the defense be able to develop a mismatch edge anywhere that forces teams into another area ?? (Depends on the opponent)

Mike Tomlin - all of the above.
