Safety
Can't believe no one is talking about there being a starting spot available. Are they going to wait until cut day?

because…there isn’t a starting spot available? Kazee and Neal will be the guys in 2023. There is a legit opening for #4 safety on this roster, but not sure that’s the most exciting steelers topic this week.
Wow- I totally missed this signing. I need to stop working so much

Cut loose Ahkello Witherspoon and Trubisky.
Sign Rock Ya-Sin and bring back Rudolph at half of Trubisky's salary.

If the Steelers are counting on Keanu Neal to play safety we’re in deep shit
He and Kazee also very fragile
Minkah going to earn his pay and then some this year

Safety is probably set unfortunately even though the Neal/Kazee combo is injury prone. They are gonna count on Tre Norwood as the glue guy. Tomlin loves him. The four safeties on the roster are the four safeties on the roster for better or worse.
EDGE still needs a guy. Herbig will make a fine 3rd but you really need 4 solid guys. Id expect a vet to be brought in after cut day.
ILB is a possibility. I think they might bring back Jack at a discount from his previous cap hit. A cover guy would be preferable but I dont see any out there in free agency that I am aware of at least.
RB is still a little thin with no real third guy besides McFarland who has never really shown anything. A vet pickup relief pitcher with passing game prowess would be nice. A home run threat is unlikely to be found.
WR could still use an infusion of speed. If Calvin Austin can stay healthy maybe the need diminishes but until he proves he can get on the field the team lacks anyone who can make a house call

Kazee could have a big year if he stays healthy. Neal is not good. Probably my least favorite move of the off-season.Steeldrama wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 10:00 pmIf the Steelers are counting on Keanu Neal to play safety we’re in deep shit

In their current state, I hate everything about this organization.

If Teague is healthy, he will beat out McFarland for the 3rd spot.meanjustinbarlow wrote: ↑Thu May 04, 2023 5:32 pmSafety is probably set unfortunately even though the Neal/Kazee combo is injury prone. Master behind Seumalo, Jones and Washington in the fourth quarter of the game against a tired defense could be painful to stop.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...
Am I the only one who felt that Snell showed some really good flashes last year? His first couple years he was absolutely abysmal...like "why is this dude even on an NFL roster?" bad. Last year he seemed to run with force and powermeanjustinbarlow wrote: ↑Thu May 04, 2023 5:32 pm

Lots of options at safety. Kazee was damn good last year. However, yes when healthy. And Neal doesn't suck. He needs to be healthy and given a stable role. Also, was talk of moving Pat Peterson there to extend his career. If Peezy JR is the real deal, Levi Wallace at other corner, frees up Pat P to play safety or at least rotate the secondary wherever needed.
I believe Master Teague has a great shot at #3 RB.
I think Hakeem will be signed for a 4 or 5 WR slot.
- Kick & punt return role a huge question mark.
- #1 inside linebacker a question mark. With coverage ILB even a bigger question mark.
- Edge a question mark too.
However, this team stacked with roster potential, compared to this time last year. Plus the bottom of the roster & depth are head & shoulders above the last 4 or 5 seasons.
Lots of cuts from other teams to go thru out the whole off-season yet, too.

I think Butler will get a deal
Chase Roullier, Washington's starting center getting released. If he's healthy, at minimum he'd be a great backup and most likely becomes the starter.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

Word in blog space suggests Kyle Van Noy is a name floating around….

I feel like the reserve OLB position on this team is like the drummer from Spinal Tap.Steelafan77 wrote: ↑Sat May 06, 2023 5:01 pmWord in blog space suggests Kyle Van Noy is a name floating around….

At this point i want to see who goes down in camp/preseason before deciding where to throw the last few dollars of cap space.
If the season started tomorrow, and i didn’t want to see Leal take snaps at Edge, OLB3 would be my priority. But as soon as we start losing starters, my priorities will change.

Steelers like their vet Olb as a backup. Besides Khan said he look to continue to add in the next 2 weeks
