WTF kind of braintrust doesn’t activate Calvin Austin, hope like hell he can help one of the worst offenses in team history, even though he’s practicing? The kicker is: if he isn’t promoted today, IIRC he’ll have to stop practicing and won’t be allowed on the field until OTAs. Why stunt the kid’s growth/potential? So you can keep Gunner Olszewski? I repeat: WTF???!!!

It’s a moving train, B2B.

The sad truth is that calling them a brain trust is awfully generous.
The other sad truth is that Pickens is our best WR and he gets like 3 targets a game. So Austin would probably see the field twice between now and game 17 and it would be two WR sweeps.

What I glean from the coaching staff’s comments is that Austin has no role in this offense. He’s fast, shifty, can create mismatches in motion and potentially break long gains like he did in training camp.
So I repeat, Austin has no role in this offense.

Funny part about all of this is that there are idiots here that still support Jibbs.
I’d call them out but they know who they are.
Dumb as fuck each and every one of them.

I actually hope we get shut-out this weekend. Zero points.

Only total and complete suck will force our blithering idiot of a HC to fix his self created mistake and fire Oh Canada heading into the bye.

I’m pretty sure sometime in the last two weeks I read online that Canada said he wasn’t sure yet what role Austin would/could play in this offense.Mick wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 6:46 pmwhat comments are you gleaning from?Orangesteel wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 6:29 pmWhat I glean from the coaching staff’s comments is that Austin has no role in this offense. The tone in Tomlin’s answer to the question about Austin told me everything I needed to know. He hasn’t played in even a preseason game, what good is he to me was the tone I got
Yep. That is exactly why.So you can keep Gunner Olszewski?
Jibbs has a roll for the scrub and if he lost him and Simms continues to be hurt then Jibbs will have to ummm “coach” and come up with a contingency plan.
And something Jibbs loathes is actually having to plan for something.
Yes but he said it with flavor by stating Austin hasn’t “played in a stadium yet”.Steelperch wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 7:50 pmThe tone in Tomlin’s answer to the question about Austin told me everything I needed to know. Gotta keep the greenhorns, green, I guess?
I mean what if the kid can just play football?

I am starting to dislike Tomlin mroe than Canada and more than the Ratbirds and Cryboys...
What is happening.
What is happening.
"I'm institutionalized, man," he joked. "I gotta have it. I just love the challenges week in and week out that this job provides: the growth in it, the collective growth, the individual growth."

Sooooo, get the kid some damn work. How freaking hard is it to mix in a few plays for him?
Oh noes. But what if we need Gunner.
Jibbs living in his damn fears again.
Coach sees himself in Gunner, as well as Najee, and Harvin.

Worse than Gunner Olszewski? Man, that would be hard to believe, especially since the current standard is we don't judge rookies until they've played at least a whole season.

Correct. Because the receivers are executing at such a high level we can't expect a rookie who hasn't practiced to make an impact.Steelperch wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 7:50 pmThe tone in Tomlin’s answer to the question about Austin told me everything I needed to know. I don't put a whole lot of stock in Canada's comment as it seems just a throw away deflection, but if true HOW in the world do you draft a guy your OC doesn't know how to use?!?

How can your OC not have an idea how to use the fastest guy on the team?Kodiak. wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 8:16 pmCorrect. PPG writer claimed the reason for Tomlin's unusually long extension was EMR wanted some continuity with Ben and Colbert ready to retire.
Which would make some sense....if Tomlin was actually good at his job AND put in the effort.
I have a higher opinion of Colbert than most, and I really believe he and Ben covered up a lot of Tomlin's shortcomings. A LOT. And I think we're already seeing the proof. I don't think Tomlin is even an average coach, and I don't think he ever was.

i guess i’m looking for something to suggest Austin isn’t terrible.Orangesteel wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 7:42 pmI’m pretty sure sometime in the last two weeks I read online that Canada said he wasn’t sure yet what role Austin would/could play in this offense.Mick wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 6:46 pmwhat comments are you gleaning from?Orangesteel wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 6:29 pmWhat I glean from the coaching staff’s comments is that Austin has no role in this offense. I think Matt Canada will forever be in the discussion for worst OC in league history, but even i don’t think he’s intentionally trying to fail. Pickens went right into the lineup, hasn’t been utilized effectively but that goes back to canada being a bad OC, not him being someone that doesn’t want talent on the field.
Austin is probably too quick on the 3 & 4-yd outs for the timing to work.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 8:18 pmHow can your OC not have an idea how to use the fastest guy on the team?
This is a plodding offense, and Austin is just too fast

I think it's simple: Gunner was one of their prize signings last offseason. They love that guy. They'd have to admit spending that guaranteed money and using the roster space was a mistake.Mick wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 8:21 pmi guess i’m looking for something to suggest Austin isn’t terrible.Orangesteel wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 7:42 pmI’m pretty sure sometime in the last two weeks I read online that Canada said he wasn’t sure yet what role Austin would/could play in this offense.

I remember writing a season postmortem a few years ago where I mentioned JAG roadblocks at certain positions being some of the biggest obstacles to success.

I loathe Tomlin but if Austin were ready to go, he'd be activated.
He isn't ready to go.
Shut him down and get him ready for next year.
I'd probably consider doing the same thing with TJ Watt.

I think the “we don’t want to admit a mistake on Gunner” train sailed when they benched Gunner and said they didn’t trust him to do the job he was signed for.
He DOES have a lis franc...not exactly a Tuitt situation.
