I'll say again - everyone is saying they want a mobile QB. The only QB on the roster that fits that bill is....Dobbs.

Yeah, if you add everything up, signs point to a trade for Wilson.StillerDownSouth wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 7:58 pmThe PS opening day starter at QB is not currently on the roster.
Not the worst thing they could do. But by the time they get a team around him in 2-3 years, he'll be on the back half of his 30's. So that move doesn't make a lot of sense to me, unless you're hoping he can elevate a bad roster into a mediocre team that can compete for the almighty #7 seed.

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – One of the first things Steelers President Art Rooney said in speaking to the media on Friday was to publicly thank Ben Roethlisberger for 18 great years. That’s easy. Now he begins the process of replacing him.
“We certainly won’t close any doors at this point,” Rooney said. “It’s early in the process. There will be a lot of doors to open and look through.”
“Certainly we have Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins on the roster. Those two will be able to compete for the position. We will be looking to put the best person at quarterback next year.”
What are the Steelers looking for in trying to replace a Hall of Famer? Will they go internal? Find the next QB in the NFL Draft? Make a trade or get one in free agency?
“I think that you have to take advantage of whatever opportunity you have to get the best quarterback you can find,” Rooney said. “You don’t always have the luxury to say you want A, B and C and go to the grocery store and order a quarterback.”
If that were the case everyone would have a good one, which the Steelers did for two decades. Rooney said he’s not a scout, but does gather information and pay attention so he can be part of their discussions on possibilities.
“We will evaluate all of the options we have,” Rooney said. “Certainly mobile quarterbacks are the wave of the future. Having mobility at that position would be desirable. The other thing that is desirable is somebody that can read a defense and complete a pass downfield.”
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin reiterated in his news conference after the playoff loss, he wants mobility in his next quarterback. How much mobility is a question. Rooney did make it clear he isn’t looking for a 1,000-yard rusher under center.
“You start with someone that can buy some time, that would be desirable,” Rooney said. “I would say in terms of having a QB that is consistently a threat to be a part of your rushing attack. I’m not sure that is something I want to rely on, that you can rely game-in, game-out, season-in, season-out.”
“Having some mobility is important, the days of having quarterbacks that their biggest threat is running is probably not exactly what we are looking for.”
OK, cross off the trade for Lamar Jackson. There is also the factor of GM Kevin Colbert retiring after the Draft. Rooney said they will operate business as usual and likely won’t hire a new general manager until after they go through the first month of free agency and following their draft selections.
Rooney said it won’t mean Mike Tomlin will have more power, but how could he not since he will be there for the 2022 season and Colbert won’t.
“There are a lot of pieces to the puzzle you have to put together,” Rooney said. “You don’t always get someone that meets every criteria you might want. You just have to get the best player, plug him in and put the best players around him and try and put everyone in position to be successful.”

we're stuck with Canada, UGH!!!!!Steelers President Art Rooney II confirms that General Manager Kevin Colbert is indeed retiring after the 2022 NFL Draft.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Rooney said they have already interviewed Steelers Vice President of Football & Business Administration Omar Kahn, as well as Pro Scouting Coordinator Brandon Hunt.
Rooney added they will also search outside of the organization for the next GM.
Rooney also says that Colbert may stay on in a reduced capacity.
A new General Manager won’t be hired until after the draft.
Colbert, a Pittsburgh native has served as the team's General Manager since 2010. Before that, he was the Director of Football Operations, dating back to 2000.
The 64-year-old, has had tremendous success in Pittsburgh, winning two Super Bowls and three AFC Championships. The team has a record of 225-124-3 under his guidance.
Over the past several years, Colbert has worked on a year-to-year basis

Art is suggesting Mike relinquish, lets seeim Hathorne 937: (Asking Art about Tomlin calling plays)
That's between Tomlin and the coordinators, but as we change DC's, there may be some changes in how Tomlin handles that "play calling"

If by mobile qb they are referring to a Mahomes or Allen, able to move around the pocket and take of IF necessary, I'm all for it. But please for the love of Christ, no Korky part 2.

based on what the 937 guys discussed with Jim Hathorn, it's not those types, QB's that can move when need be and rush (not in the % of those 2)Stlcrtn1974 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 9:13 pmIf by mobile qb they are referring to a Mahomes or Allen, able to move around the pocket and take of IF necessary, I'm all for it. Almost as if Tomlin isn't handcuffed by Deuce. Guess the last few remaining Tomlin supporters will have to find another excuse.

Dulac on Matt Canada. From Rooney’s review

Rooney also made it sound as though Matt Canada will return as offensive coordinator. When asked about the offense's deficiencies this season, he said, "That’s something Matt will want to address this offseason."

I don't think there is any chance they'll fork over the draft capital and money to make that happen... and I'm not certain I would want them to, even if inclined to do so.Kodiak. wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 8:12 pmYeah, if you add everything up, signs point to a trade for Wilson.StillerDownSouth wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 7:58 pmThe PS opening day starter at QB is not currently on the roster.

Wilson is not a “mobile” QB. Not in the sense they are talking about. Believe me. I watch a lot of him. He’s going to be 34 next season and some team is going to trade the farm for him. It’s not going to happen.
“Thoughts are a waste of time for me.” - Michael Pettaway Tomlin
I thought they were talking about a guy who can scramble around to buy time, and then complete the throw. But he did rush for over 500 yards in 2020. Sounds like exactly the kind of guy they are talking about.Orangesteel wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:15 pmWilson is not a “mobile” QB. Not in the sense they are talking about. Believe me. Glad to hear qb is top of mind. Deuce gets it I think. Prospect of multiple losing seasons is very much on the horizon.
Also glad to hear as I hoped Colbert might hang around in some capacity.
Get a qb guys. Get it right!

I'm not the least bit thrilled to hear QB is a priority when 5 of the last 12 drafts were complete busts at QB, and the best another had was Carr and Garrapolo.
Certainly not from a team that had an R1 grade on Rudolph. Moral of the story here is when you play the QB lottery, odds are half the drafts have no winner....
But I suppose if you can find a halfway decent QB, like a Carr, you can compete for that #7 seed. That seems to be the new standard.

We're going to get one of these short and/or skinny QBs. I don't want to watch that. Ugh!
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

Trubuisky ,Taylor ,mariotta
Now that the marching orders have been given (mobile) look for these idiots to trip over themselves running to the podium for some jag that can move a bit.
I’d like a QB who can move as well. But he must be able to pass the football first.
I’m sure they’ll fuck it up.

Me either. See above when I said they’ll fuck it up.
They will draft some short, weak armed jag that broke off a long run against Sheboygan St. one Saturday as a junior.

Just looking at Art’s body language when talking about Tuitt….I don’t see him coming back.
I get the impression he has no idea what the fuck he's doing.

Mobile isn't as important as "mobile enough".
Nothing is as important as accurate.
I have a strange feeling Mariotta is going to be the bridge QB.

That article implies a really interesting question - are the low salaries because that's all Deuce will pay, or is it a reflection of the caliber of people Tomlin is bringing in? As mentioned, they've had some big name assistants, and I assume guys like Lebeau and Munchak, probably even Haley, commanded well above average pay.AirRescueFF wrote: ↑Sun Jan 30, 2022 3:06 amhttps://triblive.com/sports/mark-madden ... use-hires/

Say what you want about Madden…he doesn’t toe the Steelers company line like the other media sheep…A weak staff means Tomlin is always the smartest guy in the room. It seems calculated.
It’s all Tomlin, all the time. He’s a megalomaniac.
