Sunday Ticket, Amazon streaming?

Post by Steelafan77 » Mon Apr 22, 2019 12:44 am

I realize this is off topic for this forum and understand if it is relocated to the Around the NFL forum. That said, I'd love for there to be a new streaming source instead of Direct TV. I remember thinking when the two merged [AT&T/Direct TV] I was going to get better service and more options as far as Sunday Ticket. I was Wrong! I've hated Direct TV for years now. I digress. Well, ever since At&T bought Direct TV they've sucked at customer service, their equipment is cheap and shoddy and have had several "clients" [signal receivers] replaced in as many months due to freezing, losing signal and just plain not working properly or breaking down. Not only has their service suffered and their product turned to less than shit they've become even more overpriced. Any way, since I am a Prime subscriber this would be fantastic. Have to see how it unfolds. Hopefully it benefits the fans... :geek:

Business
Amazon, Disney in play for Sunday Ticket

Before the next wave of TV deals will be negotiated, the NFL will surely be doing its biggest deal yet in the environment where much of what used to be viewed on TV is now being consumed.

Via NBCNews.com, the NFL could move its out-of-market streaming rights to Amazon or Disney. Amazon already streams Thursday Night Football, and Disney would surely love to boost the offerings of its in-house streaming service, ESPN+.

Recent tensions have emerged between the NFL and AT&T, which has purchased DirecTV. Meanwhile, ESPN has worked hard to rebuild bridges to 345 Park Avenue, and Amazon has become a behemoth in the streaming/sales space. Its value comes from the merger of viewing preferences and purchase habits, enabling Amazon to tailor commercials to viewers, who can make a purchase with the click of a button while otherwise watching a game.

Per the report, the NFL also has considered Google and Netflix for a streaming deal. The former has been “on and off”; the latter has never shown interest.

AT&T abruptly dropped NFL Network from Uverse and DirecTV now this week, while keeping NFLN in the DirecTV lineup. This development surely doesn’t make it more likely that DirecTV and the NFL will renew its longstanding arrangement, which began in 1994.

It’s possible that, in the end, DirecTV will keep the satellite rights while another company assumes the streaming of the games, allowing people in rural areas that lack high-speed Internet access to continue to watch all Sunday afternoon games and giving the NFL a potent double-dip with big fees both from DirecTV and a new streaming partner. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/amazon-dis ... 51806.html

DTV was much better before AT&T got involved.

Amazon getting Sunday Ticket would be awesome! They seem to care about getting things right more than most any company out there. Where their streaming is now compared to when they started is leaps and bounds better.

I would love for this to happen too as I have been wanting to get rid of Direct TV for a while. Only reason I have it is for Sunday ticket. Been wanting to change to Cable so can bundle TV and internet and save money.

One issue with using streaming to watch games would be how do you record it if you can't watch it at the scheduled time and want to watch it later?

I really can't understand why the NFL limits this to one network. This is such a huge money maker if it is available to the most people.
