I also think the idea of cutting players for cap room at this point is unnecessary. Maybe Dotson or Witherspoon come in in great shape and looking like they're primed for an improved season? Why rush geeting rid of them until you're sure they can't help you.
I meant players cut from other teams.

As a more optimistic hypothesis on this crew of misfits,

Historically we’ve done a good job of scouting udfa’s and getting them to camp. But then come cut down time, we’ve been losing them all to other teams who just want to take whoever the steelers like. Last year we basically lost every single one of the UDFAs we targeted. Definition of insanity?

Maybe instead of spending a bunch of money just to announce to other teams which players we think will be good guys to have on practice squads, this year we will save that money until cut down time, and try to compete in the bidding war then, when it actually counts (and without other teams knowing who we like)?
I like this theory because it makes sense. Not that we suddenly just stopped trying or got lazy. I will add that there are only a few spots where a UDFA has a shot of making the team- 3rd QB- FB- CB after the haul this team got over the weekend the only thing I didn’t like is they didn’t look for an ILB late or as an UDFA
I'm completely stumped by this

They had multiple chances to take an ILB in the draft, but didn't...

I wonder if they think the dude from Seattle, Tanner Muse, can be the dime LB? His measurable aren't far removed from Trenton Simpson.

I’m thinking they are going to re-sign Myles Jack.

When we traded down from the 80th pick, Henley, Overshown, Simpson, and Williams were all still on the board. All were gone at 93; when Dorian Williams came off two picks ahead of us, i said “fk it, let’s get Darnell Williams”. I’m guessing that was exactly what happened in the war room.

Or

The Steelers had a higher grade (much higher) on Darnell Washington and were quite happy to see all those linebackers picked ahead of them

They had a pretty clear interest in Washington, and even flew him back to check on the medical, if I heard right (there was whiskey that Friday night, and it was pick 93). I think they were pleased he was there for them.

They were definitely interested in Washington. But if they had one player that they were targeting at 80, and he was high on their board, and didn’t have other players ranked similarly, they wouldn’t have traded down.

Trading down says either they didn’t think Washington was a decent value at 80, or they had a good number of similarly rated players on their board at 80, of which Washington was one.

Pretty sure it was the latter.

Trading down says OH FUCK! We don’t have a 4th, 5th OR 6th round pick! We better get one of those so we don’t have to listen to Tomlin snore all afternoon

Patience (and a bulky knee) paid off
Steelers got their man (and a 4th rd pick)

Could we see more personnel/player movement leading in to the season?

Apparently Kyle Van Noy to the Steelers is in play. I’m not really sure which positional role he would fit—tweener or versatile…
You decide.
