STs gets to keep some guys at the bottom of the depth chart. Heyward would be one of those core guys, along with Killebrew.

Lots of other guys can play special teams. This is a nepotism waste of a spot. Keep an extra O line or D line.

Honestly, they don't have a ton of OL depth that won't make it to PS. DL isn't much different.

IF they are a contending team (I guess they are until proven otherwise), then having a few core STers is probably a good thing. If they are rebuilding and it's costing them holding on to higher-talent prospects, then of course it's dumb.

If only there were some historical precedent that the team and staff could look to in order to notice that signing the washed up vet WR for training camp presence might be okay, but keeping them into the season pays almost no dividends at all. It's like they don't remember what happened every time they've done this before at the position.
