Wasn’t so much advocating for him to compete for the full-time QB role, as much as casting a line for an additional running threat which could have upside.
Kaleb Johnson brings fresh excitement to the 2025 backfield, but it's also the case that Harris’ guaranteed durability is gone. Folks may have disliked him as the lead back, but not one of his 1097 career carries was worse than Le’Veon Bell’s replacement in the ’14 Wild Card Game.
Myself and others were high on Trey Sermon in ’21 when he went in the 3rd round of that draft. That signing ends some of the nail biting.
I honestly think Justin Fields has more upside than Will Levis and that's saying something, because it's pretty clear that Fields is never going to be a high level passer.
Levis...he has some running ability (nowhere near what Fields brings) and he looks even more clueless throwing a football than Justin Fields does.
I honestly see no upside in Will Levis. Levis looks like Tarzan, plays like a (dumber) Jane.
One of these is Will Levis's 21 starts and one is Sam Darnold's first 21 starts:
407/677 4780 yds, 60.1%, 30 TD / 25 INT. 7.1 YPA. 6.29 A/YA, 81.0 QBrating, 3 rush TD, 10 fumbles, 2 4QCB, 2 GWD
339/556 3156 yds, 61.0%,17 TD / 13 INT, 7.0 YPA. 6.47 AY/A, 81.4 QBrating, 1 rush TD, 17 fumbles, 2 4QCB, 2 GWD
Darnold has had one good year with the best receiver in the entire league and a few other really good ones, an outstanding RB and a great coach. Oh and a top 5 defense led by Brian Flores, who I wish were the Steelers head coach right now.
The Vikings didn't trust Darnold enough to break the bank for him, after he stunk it up in the playoffs and well....
looked like Sam Darnold.
Let's see how paying Sam Darnold ends up working out for the Seahawks.
Maybe Levis will someday enjoy a career renaissance somewhere, but don't bet your house it happens. Dude has everything you want in a QB except the ability to process what he's seeing. He seems to process information in slow motion. Sometimes he is able to make plays with good athletic ability and a great arm, but that simply isn't enough to win in the NFL.
I wouldn't be surprised if Levis is out of the NFL in a few years and I'm certain we aren't going to be seeing any mayonnaise commercials next season.
