The Steelers have a LOT of defensive backs on the roster right now:
JPJ, Jamel Dean, Jaquan Brisker, DeShon Elliott, Jalen Ramsey, Asante Samuel, Jr, Sebastian Castro, Darnell Savage, Brandon Echols, et al. I see some real talent there, but I what I don't really see is a back of the defense player who can play sideline to sideline and still make it up to the LOS when a play has to be made.
I have extremely high standards when it comes to safety prospects. I want a player who can be a plus contributor at three leves of the defense––can't just sit back in centerfield, can't just be effective near the LOS or in the run game. You have to have instincts and anticipation in coverage, enough length and athleticism to trigger on plays, and the physicality to make receivers pay or tackle in open space.
There are some prospects on the board at this position who have some of those skills––mostly a lack of physicality/tackling or lack of deep half/single high skills is what has them lower on my board than consensus.
Anyway, this prospect also has great production. In 3 years starting, he has, 11 interceptions, 10 Passes defensed, 5 TFL, & 113 solo tackles in his career and 73 tackles in 2025.. a nice display of what he can offer.
"Terrific communicator who was voted a permanent team captain by teammates and drew praise from Shrine Bowl evaluators for his pre-snap leadership and secondary organization... Good length at 6'2" gives him the frame to contest catch points and disrupt passing lanes, a tangible advantage over shorter safeties in contested-catch situations." says the scouting report.
I like the way he moves smoothly going backward and is just as smooth transitioning to redirect to the football. He isn't slow but not fast-- more like a very decisive anticipator with surprising good–sometimes great– burst to the ball. Also he was a pretty good CB, the door is open for him to win a job for this team as a FS, and at times he has looked spectacular doing that this season.
With the 99th pick in the SteelerFury Mock draft, the Steelers select:
Jalen Huskey, S, Maryland

With the 111th pick, the Denver Broncos select:
Genesis Smith, SAF, Arizona
With the looming departure of Brandon Jones to Free Agency in 2027, and the departure of backup safety PJ Locke in 2026, Smith becomes a great sidekick with Hufanga in the Denver secondary.

Steelers have some candidates to fill the empty starting spot at G, but neither the loser of the LT competition nor Spencer Anderson fill me with a lot of upside hope.
I think building a kick-ass OL is the key thing to be doing if you want to win championships. The beifer period of time when the Steelers had an elite QB, a stud RB, a stud WR, and a top 5 OL was one of the greatest in NFL history. But teams like Philly have won with one or more of those elements missing, mostly because their OL was sick.
This prospect was a little underdeveloped with a weird coaching situation and the situation reminds me of Ramon Foster's at Tennessee, where OLmen were dicked around and rotated and never got to settle in to the job.
As good as Ramon was, he's not the athlete or athletic specimen this 2026 prospect is. Our guy in the 99th percentile in explosion and size and, when he gets it right, it shows. Basically, his better and best reps are better than the better and best reps of most of the guards in this class. Round 4 is because of the way he was handled in college football and the fact he will benefit greatly from a better coaching situation.
Anyway, I am much higher on him than consensus but I'm planting a flag because I see what he can be and he fits this offense to a T:

After much head-scratching and spinning the wheel to figure out who to go with for this selection...
With the 116th pick, the Denver Broncos select:
<drum roll please>
Bryce Boettcher, LB, Oregon
Reasons for this pick - The depth of the Denver ILB room is very thin after the release of Dre Greenlaw. Strnad and Singleton will start, but the current depth are former UDFA players. Boettcher had a fantastic showing at the Senior Bowl, but has been very effective in Oregon the last couple of seasons - especially in coverage situations. He also plays baseball with the Ducks, which makes him a well-rounded pick.
