SteelerFury.com Podcast : End of Season 2025/26
"Turn out the lights, the party's over,
They say that all good things must end,
Call it a night, the party's over,
And tomorrow starts the same old thing again."
Former Dallas QB and broadcaster Don Meredith made this Willie Nelson song famous as he used to sing this on the broadcast once a team had an insurmountable lead or the game was well in hand. Unfortunately, it's a tune that Pittsburgh Steelers fans seem all too familiar with as team suffered another embarrassing loss to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round. Then less than 24 hours later, Mike Tomlin stepped down as the Steelers head coach and sent Steeler Nation into a frenzy of who would be the next head coach of this storied franchise. Fast forward to today, multiple sources have confirmed that former head coach Mike McCarthy would be new head man of the Steelers. Join your hosts Jeremy Kohlman, Wil Masisak, and Korey Karbowsky as they discuss what hiring McCarthy means for the franchise and its future as next era of Pittsburgh Steelers football begins.

Watched the first 20 min of your podcast, will watch the rest later.
Yinz make a lot of assumptions about the couch that McCarthy will be for the Steelers. You don't want him to call plays, criticize his "conservative" play-calling, but didn't his teams lead the NFL in scoring multiple years? As I've posted on several occasions, McCarthy has u disputed high level offensive chops.
I also find it really funny that the three of you, as well as the majority of posters on this esteemed website, criticize the organization for doing the same old shit...but....criticize them for NOT doing the same okd shit, which was hiring a younger defensive guy.
Will watch the rest later.

This is exactly the same old shit, once you get beneath the veneer of “an offensive guy”. McCarthy had some really good QBs and got shitcanned for having overly conservative play calls/game plans. Twice he had this pattern. Got his NFL start under Schottenheimer, so… kind of figures. He may upgrade the offense but dude is a dinosaur, cut from the same cloth as Rooney & Tomlin, just a different packaging.swissvale72 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 25, 2026 2:54 amWatched the first 20 min of your podcast, will watch the rest later.

McCarthy reputation is that he is the worst time & game management coach in the NFL. He’s no Russ Grimm.

Steelers would save $12 mil by cutting 26 year old Patrick Queen. As far as "extrapolating that across the roster," other than Jonnu Smith (obv) and sealosu (sp)....and TJ, who else?

Per one of the questions that you raised maybe the announcement was today because they're about to get moving with other announcements regarding McCarthy staff as soon as Monday if the Rams lose

$19M is the salary cap hit if he stays. I've read, forget where that the savings would be 12 million if he doesn't stay.Who Dee Knee wrote: ↑Sun Jan 25, 2026 7:11 amRamsey. $19M saved IIRC.swissvale72 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 25, 2026 5:03 amSteelers would save $12 mil by cutting 26 year old Patrick Queen. They’ve got play or trade Muth. It’s ridiculous they evaluated him as a guy worthy of a top 10 TE contract then immediately buried him on the depth chart.Who Dee Knee wrote: ↑Sun Jan 25, 2026 7:11 amRamsey. $19M saved IIRC.swissvale72 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 25, 2026 5:03 amSteelers would save $12 mil by cutting 26 year old Patrick Queen. Hopefully, with a new head coach, a new OC, and (fingers crossed) a new QB, we will see the end to the fucking Darnell Washington dog and pony show!Steelperch wrote: ↑Sun Jan 25, 2026 10:07 pmThey’ve got play or trade Muth. Maybe McCarthy sees some Bubba Franks in big Darnell.
Muth nowhere close to Jermichael Finley however
Jake Ferguson maybe. Couple slow white dudes.

Sorry what dog and pony show? Are you suggesting they should be doing more with him or less?Jobu wrote: ↑Sun Jan 25, 2026 10:18 pmHopefully, with a new head coach, a new OC, and (fingers crossed) a new QB, we will see the end to the fucking Darnell Washington dog and pony show!Steelperch wrote: ↑Sun Jan 25, 2026 10:07 pmThey’ve got play or trade Muth. I like the theory of drafting QB’s until you hit, however the year they tried that Chris Oladukan was the pick later on instead of Mr Irrelevant Brock Purdy……
Oh what could have been…..

I'm going to guess that was sarcafont-less sarcasm. One of, and probably the most interesting of, maybe four actually interesting skill position players on the team.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 12:11 amSorry what dog and pony show?
