Payton gave up 3 today as well on a 4th and 1. Critical points in a low scoring game.
Yeah. I was saying kick.
Had to know weather was coming in 2nd half.
No?
Too much bravado this year in 4th and 1.
Especially in playoffs...

Yeah, either got a little too emotional or a little too analytical on that 4th and 4. Great defensive call by Seattle on that play.

Looks like I'll be rooting for JSN and the Squawks over Trey and the Pats in the Super Bowl.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...

I love how aggressive the Seahawks have been in this drive.

100% chance the Steelers go 3 and out with a run, run, throw short of sticks, punt sequence.

The BALLS to throw there. I don't think I ever saw Tomlin do that every in that situation in 19 years.

Never understood why teams quit running their offense in under 4 minute end of game situations with a lead, 1st downs wins games, not running clock and punting.

Rooney is sitting at home thinking we went 1-1 against the SB teams so we must be close.

Mcvey made some bad decisions to fuck that game.

Sam Darnold reclaimed his dignity. Crazy.

The Conference Championships reminded me still how bad we are at drafting. These teams run very sophisticated scouting departments and pick some great talent.

We trade up for Broderick and pass on C. Gonzalez....AS WELL AS JSN.

We constantly draft for need rather than BPA and it's killed us over the last decade.

JSN was the obvious miss. He was the most talented WR in absolutely stacked Ohio State WR room. We badly needed young WR talent and reached for a fat oaf LT who barely played 1 season in college.

Seems like a good time to point out you guys are fans of a franchise that traded up to take Broderick Jones with Jaxon Smith Njigba on the board.

Yes like going for it on 4th down instead of kicking the FG to make it 31-30.

These coaches have gone completely the other way on 4th downs...from too conservative to too aggressive.

I was actually wondering that the other day. POSSIBLE someone might feel Tomlin is a hard act to follow, hardly Belicheat but who knows....

But maybe there is something to the guys who are a hot commodity waiting for their absolute best shot. While PIT might have the job security thing going, maybe these young offensive minds want to go somewhere with a QB they can work with already in place (or the draft slot to acquire one).

Like if you look at CLE, you have the owner that's maybe a problem AND you don't have a QB.

Problem is with a 5-yr deal McCarthy isn't exactly just a bridge HC. But maybe it's real 4 + an option year, so effectively 3 years to right the ship. I'm OK with that, even if I think McCarthy is just another Mediocre Mike knockoff.

Fans and sportswriters are full of shit. Sam Darnold didn't need to prove his "dignity" to the fanbase or to the press. The fact that he is even in the NFL means he is easily in the top .01 percent of people who have ever tried being a QB.

He is far better at what he does than the average fan's job performance rating at the swing shift at Burger King or Stephen A Smith screaming at the camera nonstop.

Even more pathetic when a no name scrub comes in and immediately looks better than the POS they traded up in the 1st round for.

One of the interesting things about the backhalf of the Tomlin era was that they basically found most of their players only in the top rounds. This was *mostly* true under Cowher/Colbert as well, but the early rounds were far, far better during those eras.

You look at the Rams and everyone thought they were basically dead in the water after they said fuck them picks and such, but they were able to continue to acquire key cogs and better even with the meager draft capital they had available to them. So here we are and they're back in the NFCCG.

To relate this back to Broderick Jones, the only answer they had for a while to fix any positional group was to invest high draft capital into it. They still whiffed very frequently and then they started to put the band-aids on the roster in terms of FA signings who were kind of second tier guys they sold as more (Queen) or washed up has been's (Ramsey in my view). People lauded Kahn's supposed aggressiveness, but it was really just desperation to keep those NHALS's flowing so everyone stayed employed for as long as they wanted.

They've just become mediocre to worse at EVERY aspect of building a team at this point and their solution was to hire Mike McCarthy who sadly could very well be an upgrade over the supposed HOF'er who walked or was fired - however you choose to interpret that situation.

Watt was the last top end talent they have taken in the first round. A blind fucking squirrel could probably have lucked into more successful picks than they did with two different GM's and Mediocre Mike calling the shots.

I was sad to learn that it seems Ike Taylor is no longer employed as a scout with the team after they threw him a bone following his indiscretions with the NFL Network. At least he wasn't mentioned in the last recounting I saw of their scouting department. But that's the sort of stupid nepo hire they've filled the organization with. You have Mark Bruener floating around and probably pounding the table for his son to be drafted. It's really a fucking joke and we certainly don't know the half of the rot looking at it from the outside.

Just everything that modern NFL teams do well, the Steelers kind of suck at now. It's a mini-miracle and speaks to how good the organization used to run that they still could kind of muddle along and have any success. But the wheels are going to come off at some point unless there are real changes.

The drafting has gone down hill because somewhere in those scouting/draft rooms people keep emphasizing NEED rather than BPA. Teams that draft for need think they are contenders. "If I only fix this one hole, I might win the SB." Art 2's philosophy of never wanting a rebuild is a cancer to a BPA draft.

Broderick, Kenny, Artie, Bush, Najee, Claypool, etc. Terrible fckin picks when there were elite BPAs available that would have made us much better in the long term. Until we stop racing to the podium rushing up there for need (even when our need position either SUCKS or has been PICKED BARE), we are going to struggle.
