So, one obvious reason mentioned for the inability for the Steelers to compete for championships (aside from Tomlin), is that they won't do a rebuild. Instead they would patch things up, and be good enough to win the division and make the playoffs sometimes. So they would draft in the middle of the rounds, not near the top.
When is the last time the Steelers did a rebuild?
Was it Noll, given his knowledge of the overall mediocrity of the talent when he started?
Logically I would think it has to be. Technically it isn't a rebuild when you are starting at the bottom with no foundation.
It wasn't Cowher or Tomlin, obviously.
Does ownership have the will to do a tear down and rebuild? There is no doubt its needed.
I heard on the radio yesterday that Giants also have a similar philosophy, surprise.
They wouldn't do an intentional rebuild because they "charge people for tickets and have to put a good product on the field".
Will the Steelers do a rebuild?

I imagine this would be the reason they don't take this opportunity to rebuild, but I think their statement is misguided. It's a nice sentiment for sure, but any fan worth their salt knows that we'll need to feel some pain in the short term to right the ship. I don't care if we go winless next season as long as I see the foundation being built and a modern system being put into place. We do that I'll gladly spend my Sundays watching us go 0-17.They wouldn't do an intentional rebuild because they "charge people for tickets and have to put a good product on the field".
"Work harder not smarter" - Mike Tomlin
A new coach should result in some significant roster change. I am not sure it would be considered a full rebuild but there will be a lot more roster changes than normal.
I am interested in seeing how some of the doghouse players (ie Roman Wilson) get treated by the new administration. Also, to see how some of the underperforming favorites are handled.

Dante Moore just announced he is staying at Oregon, so another QB not in the supposed all-time class of 2026....looking like Steelers will for sure have to wait on a first round QB until 2027 at the earliest, not sure other than Mendoza if any coming out this year are worth a 1st round pick.
