Hairball out in Baltimore
Re: Hairball out in Baltimore
Its funny people don't want anyone to criticize Tomlin because it's futile and because he has a job for life.
There's a word for that.
There's a word for that.
"I'm institutionalized, man," he joked. "I gotta have it. I just love the challenges week in and week out that this job provides: the growth in it, the collective growth, the individual growth."
And every year it starts out with "PIT could be a real sleeper playoff team....because Tomlin has never had a losing season".
Then it becomes "Tomlin has no talent and is overachieving again....did you know he's never had a losing season?"
And somehow ends up, after a historically inept effort to back out of the playoffs, with Tomlin getting lauded for dragging the the "talentless" team he assembled and coached into the playoffs (which, actually no he needed multiple other teams to lose).
Jedi mind tricks. It's the only thing that makes sense.

Tomlin’s bitch as his successor
That would be….
Good old FlorioSteelers: If the team thinks Mike Tomlin, who seems to have a TV offer in his back pocket, could be leaving after the playoff run ends, it needs to be thinking about the next coach. Why not Harbaugh?

How can a guy as lazy as Tomlin not be falling all over himself to move onto TV? A few years from now it will be "wow, coach, you've never even taken a sick day? How many days without a sick day is that now? NHASD"
Rooney would never do this.Steeldrama wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 4:22 pmhttps://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootba ... n-harbaugh

Because even he has to know the Steelers need a rebuild and also if out from under Tomlin's contract he would want to save money by hiring an unproven up and comer like the Steelers have done since Noll.

maybe Tomlin is tired and this is his Swansong along with AR, Cam and TJ
THat ND coach seems like the best candidate, a go-getting bullshit artist that has control over the media.
Just middling and personable enough to pull one over on the braindead zombie rubes.
"YOU CAN'T CRITICIZE HIM!"
But will he show up Coach T? He might! Coach Thinskin will have his wife printing up t-shirts at a billion miles an hour.
"NO, I came up with that saying, NOT HIM."
Can you imagine the run throughs with Coach T on the NFL Today. Holy shit.

"well, look, when we had Ben Rothlisberger, he was abaht as good a pure passer as has ever played the game and we tried to let Ben be Ben and not try to shove him into a box and not be able to pass in the middle of the field. We also tried to get the best center on the o-line as we could, especially as he got older"

What you guys should do is wonder if you can imagine Art II removing his bud Tomlin to get more out of Roethlisberger as the Ravens are reportedly doing with Harbaugh. Looking to get a coach who can maximize your top asset? Crazy talk!langer wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 7:22 pm"well, look, when we had Ben Rothlisberger, he was abaht as good a pure passer as has ever played the game and we tried to let Ben be Ben and not try to shove him into a box and not be able to pass in the middle of the field. And don't get me started on the media. They were too busy hating Ben and chalking up the Steelers failures to him to ever ask such a thing.

Miami’s set of GM interviews thus far have seen candidates asked about working with McDaniel, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini. But the meetings have also included the search committee asking the candidates about thoughts on replacing the four-year HC and starting fresh. This prospect came up Tuesday as well.

Cowher would definitely fume quietly.
He’s turned into a PC simp. He’d never say a word.
I miss his fire, spittle and jutting chin. TV pays well.

This is a great point. Bill already went through at least one humiliation ritual. The Crafton has been beaten out of him.
Hope he didn't go further than this like Strahan.

Mike McDaniel fired in Miami..
I called Harbaugh to Miami and now it’s a certainty.
I will take my victory lap.

Artie Smith one of many candidates the Titans have lined up to help ruin Cam Ward.
Should Uncle Artie miraculously land that gig, I’ll be the first in line to say “Please DO NOT hire that weird little man.”
Of course I want Tomlin to find a highly qualified, innovative OC and grant that OC full autonomy to implement a FUN, ENTERTAINING, modern day NFL offense.
Hiring a branch off the Shanahan/McVay tree would be a dream come true
But man
That McDaniel dude?
That’s one strange cat
Watching that creepy little fella try to get out a sentence makes my ears bleed.
Ohhh McDaniel will be in demand, but hopefully he and his knee high sweatpants gets hired elsewhere.

The grass is always greener.
But all I'll say is anyone who thinks Tomlin would have done more than Harbough with Lamar Jackson is nuts.

You are forgetting one massive benefit of hiring McDaniel. He satisfies the Rooney Rule. (Art the Lessor felt something in his pants move).

It’s weird. I honestly don’t think of McDaniel as creepy. I see why people think that but believe it’s because McDaniel loves him some spliffs.Steeldrama wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 4:23 pmArtie Smith one of many candidates the Titans have lined up to help ruin Cam Ward.

I think he’s a stoner, like myself. He looks fucking baked all the time and when you’re baked you’re way too laid back and say stupid shit. That’s McDaniel in a nutshell.
Also I have a better chance of being Tennessee’s coach than Arthur Smith.
Absolutely no chance that happens.

If my once beloved Steelers hired weird little Mike McDaniel to be their head coach I’d find a newly beloved team.
Nick Markakis on Astros: "Every guy over there needs a beating."
McDaniel has about as much chance of being hired by Tomlin as I do. Those two wouldn't mesh at all.
EDIT: I also can't recall if I posted here, but i love that they fired Harbaugh to get more out of Jackson. That they will look to maximize the asset they have. Can anyone imagine those words coming out of Art II"s mouth when Ben was here and the coaching clearly never brought out his full potential or that of the team?
This is compounded by the reality that Jackson may very well fall off a cliff as a player at any time because once those legs go, he's done. Everything he does even as a passer is predicated on the threat of him running. His best plays as a passer usually are produced by his legs. The coverages he faces? All determined by the run game first and foremost. He's simply not going to succeed into his mid-30's. He may have 2-3 years left at most. Given what we saw this year from an injury standpoint, he may already be a different guy than the one who took home the MVP's.
Harbaugh could have stayed another 20 years given his age.
I think most teams would gladly pick the true franchise QB over the coach. But the math is just different with Harbaugh and Jackson to me.
All that said, even if the Steelers had made the decision to fire Tomlin to get more out of Ben like the Rats are doing, you can bet your sweetass that the media and all those former players on the boob tube wouldn't be cheering it on. They'd be bemoaning the firing of a "great" black coach to get more out of a white QB they despised.

Wouldn’t harbaugh be more interested in giants job ? They have dart. Miami has no qb and salary cap issues cause of Tua contract .
McDaniel will make a great oc. He can scheme up some great running plays too
Saw a post game clip of Lamar going for a chest bump with Coach T while Coach H was waling towards him.
