Covid Question

Post by Steeldrama » Wed Jan 05, 2022 1:25 am

Let me preface this by saying it's more of a rant than an actual question and that there is NOBODY more over the whole Covid chaos than me.
Going back to school this week has been an absolute nightmare of virtual learning/staffing gloom and doom scenarios.
Total chaos and frustration.

So like many of you to help escape my reality, I check PFT/Rotoworld for the latest NFL headlines.
No escaping reality today
I just read that the Browns placed D'Ernest Johnson the Covid list today.
The dude just played our Steelers last night
Today he's in the Covid protocol?
WTF is that???
Was the kid not tested before the game last night?
Kid's out there spittin Covid all over the Steelers' defense?
TJ Watt can't get the sack record because this Johnson jerkoff wasn't tested????

I mean the Eagles just played Sunday now they have 12 guys out with Covid two days later???

I know, I know science.
it takes a few days after being infected to test positive etc etc etc

Whatever

This whole thing just needs to go the fuck away.

The league tests on Mondays so players who test positive have a chance to be cleared by Sunday. Steelers and Browns tested on Tuesday since they played Monday night. From what we’ve seen so far, there has been practically zero transmissions from sporting events.

Anyone with a brain is over Covid, more specifically the governmental authoritarianism associated with it.

Ben missed the Lions game. 9-7-1 will not get us in this year barring a miracle.

The NFL “policy” from the jump this year has been a joke. The fact that Ben couldn’t play that game is a joke.

We need more test kits.
Just have to Google

I remember when we used to be able to win games with our back-up QBs.

Detroit should have been a W even with Rudolph.

Another egg laid vs an absolute bottom feeder team. Tipping my cap to Jibbs for having his men on point that day.

At least we have TJ going. For a record next week. That and Ben’s last game ever.

Hopefully the team cares bout him going out with a W.

FWIW that tie doesn’t look all that costly now. From the looks of it, if that tie was flipped to a W we’d still lose basically every tie breaker against all the teams likely to finish 10-7 anyway.

Ah great news. Again, tip my cap to Jibbs.

Awesome he navigated a tie on blades of grass against an 0-11 team or whatever they were.

Yep.

We lose H2H to the Chargers and via conference record to the Colts and Raiders.

Giving up the big TD against the Chargers after we took the lead (where we also failed to use up the clock) is the killer loss.

I saw a chart that's going to make most primary- and secondary-ed teachers flip out.

Basically, 6+ hours per day in a classroom renders masks completely useless (which should have been obvious to everyone). Only if everyone is all wearing N95 is that "safe" - up to 25 hours of protection in that scenario. And that's from the CDC early in the pandemic. With Omicron, N95 might not even cut it.

Also, STILL haven't heard of cases of transmission on the football field. But, again, that might be different with Omicron, and it seems to be happening pretty easily now with basketball (not many reports of inter-team transmission last year)

Went through my house right around Christmas. Felt like a sinus infection and fatigue. Felt pretty shitty for a couple days but nothing crazy.

It’s sooooo demoralizing. I cannot fathom trying to teach adolescent attention spans over Zoom. Let alone all the shit that accompanies differences in home life, finance, etc., for students piled on top of it.

I’m banking on my Uni caring more about money and parent / booster backlash than omicron and we stay in person. All students are required to be fully vaxxed and boosters are being pushed hard. Let’s just wear n 95s and soldier the fuck through it! Omicron is not Delta. If you are immune compromised, we’ll sort it out.

Same here. I got it just prior to Christmas. Mainly body aches and headaches for me….and fatigue. But almost 100% back now. Wife got it after Christmas. Son just got it. My daughter hasn’t gotten it.

I’m so over this shit. I have no answers but we can’t continue on like this. I feel terrible for kids and young adults….their lives are being drastically altered and it’s not good for their mental health.

Hope there’s an end to this.

Del State and University of Delaware have required all students to be fully vaxxed and boosted to attend in person, which is at least a step in the right direction for some kind of sustainability at your level, but there's no chance of that happening at the secondary level. I'll say this, students have been very vigilant, even more so since getting back from break. They have NO desire to go back to virtual, either.

I'm a high school teacher in good 'ole NYC.

Our brand new mayor yesterday, Eric Adams, mentioned how the best place for kids to be IS IN SCHOOL, not at home, where transmission is higher.

My colleagues who keep bringing up closures (oh, we're getting closed soon, blah blah blah) I've been hearing it for months.

Starting this week, in nyc teachers will be given 2 take home rapid tests weekly if you want them (my wife has had chest pain for a week, took both rapids that i got on different days testing negative)

A ton of absences this week - NYC attendance on Monday was at only 67%. Yesterday didn't seem much better.

Gotta keep pushing through, last thing i want to do is stay home again this year.

Totally agree on not wanting any part of virtual, ever again. It's staffing issues driving it down here, though I had 50% students in my first block class. We're functional today with 1/3 of the staff (no admin yet) out, but it's worrisome. More today than yesterday.

NFL has a backup incase LA can't host the Super Bowl.

They are thinking about Dallas being the host.

Which means the Cowboys could potentially be the home team.

Already a new variant discovered in France.

Only like 40 known cases so far. Nobody knows if this is the next and possibly weaker Omicron, or the next and maybe far more dangerous Delta variant.

This isn't going away anytime soon.

There is new one called "Flurona" in LA county. Flu and Corona at the same time.

Sadly, It seems Covid just has to run its course and we need to deal with it as best we can.

This coronavirus isn't the flu. The current strain doesn't seem as dangerous as the original or Delta, but hospitals are still filling up.

Hopefully they will continue to weaken but there is no guarantee that will be the case.
